Job Description: A Mechanical Manager for a Steel Melting Shop (SMS) leads all mechanical maintenance and project operations. Their primary goal is to ensure high equipment reliability, minimize downtime for equipment like Induction Furnaces and Continuous Casting Machines (CCM), and enforce strict safety and cost standards. Core Responsibilities

- Maintenance Planning: Direct and schedule preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance for furnaces, EOT cranes, pumps, and conveyors.
- Downtime & Root Cause Analysis: Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for equipment failures to eliminate recurring defects and reduce plant downtime.
- Spare Parts Management: Manage inventory levels, optimize spare procurement, and ensure the availability of critical materials.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) protocols and ensure all statutory machinery inspections are completed.
- Team Leadership: Supervise shift engineers, technicians, and contractors while overseeing daily performance, training, and shift operations.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) & Targets
- Equipment Availability:



Aim for >98% mechanical availability during peak production periods.
- Maintenance Costs: Execute planned versus unplanned spend within a targeted operational budget (typically 15-25% reduction in emergency breakdown costs YoY).
- Zero LTI: Maintain a target of zero Lost Time Injuries (LTI) or major safety incidents within the shop floor.

Required Qualifications & Competencies
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: 5 to 15+ years of hands-on mechanical maintenance experience in a steel manufacturing setting (EAF/IF/CCM).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in hydraulic systems, heavy-duty cranes, and water-cooling circuits.
- System Knowledge: Hands-on ERP experience, specifically with SAP PM modules for spare parts and work orders.
