Job Description
We're seeking a Design Engineer to build the physical machine behind our modular indoor farming systems.
You will design, prototype, and harden the mechanical subsystems that keep our farms alive: from fluidics and climate hardware to structure, fabrication, and field reliability. You'll work directly with our Mechanical lead and own a core subsystem end to end.
About Us
Humanity must produce more food in the next four decades than we have in the last 8,000 years of agriculture combined.
At Cosy, we are redesigning farming as a controlled, modular, and scalable system built next to where people live. We believe food production should be precise, reliable, and repeatable - not dependent on weather or distance.
We are building environmental control machines that grow food.
Who you are
- You are a hands-on mechanical builder.
- You've shipped real hardware.
- You've watched things fail in the field and fixed them.
- You understand that designing a physical system is very different from designing it on a screen humidity, vibration, corrosion, and a technician at 2am are all part of the spec.
- You think in systems: Structure → Fluidics → Climate → Serviceability → Reliability → Manufacturing.
- You take ownership.
Responsibilities
- Own the mechanical design of a core subsystem ( Irrigation systems, climate & airflow, structure/automation) from concept to a unit that runs unattended for months
- Produce manufacturing-ready CAD, drawings, and BOMs (SolidWorks / Fusion 360)
- Design fluid systems - pumps, valves, dosing, tubing, filtration, for accuracy and zero leaks
- Design for climate and airflow uniformity across the growing volume
- Design for manufacturing and serviceability, parts a technician can swap in the field
- Build and test prototypes hands-on; iterate fast
- Source components and manage fabrication and machining vendors
- Lead mechanical testing, tolerancing, and field debugging
- Establish design standards, drawing conventions, and version control
Requirements
- 1-3 years of experience in mechanical design of physical products
- Solid proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks or Fusion 360) and engineering drawings / GD&T;
- Hands-on prototyping, you'd rather build a rig than argue about it
- Experience with at least one of: fluid/plumbing systems, thermal/HVAC, or motion/automation
- Understanding of design for manufacturing (sheet metal, machining, plastics)
- Experience selecting components and working with fabrication vendors
- Experience deploying or servicing hardware outside the lab
- A reliability mindset, you think about what breaks after 6 months in humidity
Strongly Preferred
- Mechatronics exposure -comfort working alongside sensors, actuators, and controls
- Experience in agritech, appliances, medical devices, or industrial equipment
- Experience designing systems that require high reliability and easy maintenance
- Familiarity with pumps, dosing systems, or HVAC components
- Comfort with rapid prototyping (3D printing, basic machining)
What We Offer
- High ownership from day one
- Direct impact on core product architecture
- Opportunity to build a scalable environmental control system from the ground up
- Collaborative, hands-on startup environment
- Fresh herbs to take home
