You will be diagnosing failed drives down to the component, repairing them, and load-testing them before dispatch. This is a workshop bench role, with occasional site visits to customer plants.
- What you will do: Receive failed VFDs, take fault history from the customer, and carry out systematic diagnosis — input rectifier, DC bus, IGBT module, gate driver circuit, SMPS/control supply, current sensors, control card
- Trace faults at component level using multimeter, oscilloscope, LCR meter and ESR meter
- Replace IGBT modules, thyristor/diode bridges, DC link capacitors, driver ICs, current transducers, cooling fans and relays; carry out clean soldering and desoldering on multi-layer boards
- Run the repaired drive on load bank / test motor, verify output waveform balance, thermal behaviour and trip response before clearing it for dispatch
- Maintain a repair record for every unit: fault found, root cause, parts replaced, test results
- Identify failure patterns and advise customers on root causes — supply quality,
overload, ambient temperature, cable length, cooling
- Attend customer sites for drive commissioning, parameter setting and breakdown support when required
- Keep the workshop, ESD practice and spares inventory in order
Must have Hands-on component-level repair of VFDs, or of closely related power electronics online UPS, servo stabilizer, welding inverter, solar inverter, DC drives, SMPS
- Ability to read and follow power and control circuit diagrams
- Confident use of multimeter and CRO; comfortable checking IGBT and rectifier health with diode test
- Practical soldering / desoldering skill on SMD and through-hole boards
- Understanding of three-phase power, PWM inverter basics and drive protection trips (OC, OV, UV, OL, earth fault, phase loss)
- Electrical safety discipline — DC bus discharge, ESD handling, LOTO
