Role & responsibilities
- Electrical Installation &
- Maintenance:
Carry out installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of electrical wiring, cables, switches, sockets, lights, fans, and other electrical fixtures across the campus.
- Routine Electrical Inspection: Regularly inspect electrical systems, wiring, distribution boards, switches, sockets, lighting points, and other installations to identify faults or potential safety hazards.
- Fault Identification &
- Repair:
Diagnose and rectify common electrical faults such as short circuits, loose connections, power failures, damaged wires, faulty switches, and malfunctioning electrical fixtures.
- Wiring Work: Perform new electrical wiring, rewiring, cable laying, cable termination, and connection work as required for classrooms, offices, laboratories, hostels, residential buildings, and other campus facilities.
- Lighting Maintenance: Install, repair, and replace bulbs, tube lights, LED lights, emergency lights, street lights, and other lighting fixtures.
- Electrical Equipment Support: Assist in the installation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of electrical equipment, appliances, fans, pumps, motors, and other electrical systems.
- Preventive Maintenance: Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance to ensure electrical systems remain safe, functional, and reliable and to reduce the chances of unexpected breakdowns.
- Power Supply Monitoring: Monitor electrical supply and report abnormalities such as voltage fluctuations, frequent tripping, overheating, unusual sounds, or other electrical issues to the concerned supervisor.
- Distribution Board Maintenance: Inspect and maintain electrical distribution boards, MCBs, fuses, switches, and related components and report any major defect requiring specialized attention.
- Emergency Electrical Support: Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns, power failures, short circuits, and other urgent electrical complaints across the institution.
- Safety Compliance: Strictly follow electrical safety procedures while carrying out installation, repair, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
- Use of Tools &
- Equipment:
Properly operate and maintain electrical tools, testing instruments, ladders, and other equipment required for electrical maintenance work.
- Material Requirement: Identify and communicate requirements for wires,
cables, switches, sockets, electrical fittings, spare parts, and other materials to the concerned authority.
- Coordination with Maintenance Team: Coordinate with plumbers, civil maintenance staff, HVAC technicians, housekeeping personnel, contractors, and other technical staff whenever combined maintenance work is required.
- Campus Electrical Maintenance: Provide electrical maintenance support in classrooms, administrative offices, laboratories, libraries, hostels, staff residences, common areas, sports facilities, and other campus buildings.
- Event &
- Examination Support:
Provide electrical support during examinations, seminars, conferences, university functions, admission activities, cultural events, and other institutional programs.
- Electrical Safety Checks: Identify exposed wires, damaged insulation, loose connections, overloaded circuits, and other potential electrical hazards and take corrective action or immediately report them.
- Maintenance Records: Maintain basic records of electrical complaints, repair work, replacement of components, preventive maintenance, and materials used, wherever required.
- Energy Conservation: Support energy-saving initiatives by identifying unnecessary power consumption, faulty electrical fixtures, and avoidable energy wastage.
- Other Assigned Duties: Perform any other electrical maintenance and facility-related duties assigned by the supervisor or competent authority from time to time.
Preferred candidate profile
- Candidates should preferably possess an ITI/Trade Certificate in Wireman/Electrician or an equivalent recognized technical qualification.
- Candidates with relevant experience in electrical installation, wiring, repair, and maintenance will be preferred.
- Prior experience in a University, College, School, Government Organization, Hospital, Residential Complex, Commercial Building, or other institutional setup will be an added advantage.
- Should have practical knowledge of electrical wiring, cable laying, switches, sockets, MCBs, distribution boards, lighting systems, fans, and basic electrical fixtures.
- Must be capable of identifying and resolving common electrical problems such as short circuits, loose connections, power
- failures, damaged wiring, faulty switches, and tripping of MCBs.
- Should have basic knowledge of single-phase and three-phase electrical systems and commonly used electrical components.
- Candidates should be familiar with the safe use of electrical testing instruments and hand tools.
- Should have a basic understanding of electrical safety standards, earthing, insulation, circuit protection, and secure working practices.
- Candidates with experience in campus-wide or large-building electrical maintenance will be preferred.
- Experience in maintaining electrical systems in hostels, laboratories, classrooms, offices, residential buildings, and other institutional facilities will be an added advantage.
- Should be capable of working at heights and in different areas of a large campus, wherever required for electrical maintenance activities.
- Must be physically fit and capable of performing hands-on electrical work, including lifting equipment, climbing ladders, and working in confined or difficult areas when necessary.
- Should demonstrate punctuality, discipline, reliability, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Must have a safety-first approach and strictly follow electrical safety procedures while performing assigned duties.
- Should be able to respond promptly to electrical emergencies and urgent maintenance complaints.
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills will be preferred.
- Should have the ability to work independen
- tly as well as effectively as part of a maintenance/technical team.
- Basic communication skills in Hindi and/or Gujarati would be an advantage for effective coordination with students, faculty, staff, and other maintenance personnel.
- Candidates should be willing to work according to institutional requirements, including occasional support during events, examinations, emergencies, or outside regular working hours when required.
- Candidates with a service-oriented attitude, attention to safety, and good work discipline will be preferred.
