Pharmacy Aide Role & Responsibilities
- Assist the Pharmacist/Pharmacy In-Charge in day-to-day pharmacy operations.
- Support dispensing of medicines under the supervision of a qualified pharmacist.
- Receive, arrange, label, and store medicines and pharmacy supplies properly.
- Assist in maintaining FEFO (First Expiry, First Out) stock rotation.
- Check medicine names, quantities, batch numbers, and expiry dates during stock handling.
- Assist with daily and monthly physical stock verification.
- Report shortages, damaged items, near-expiry and expired medicines to the Pharmacy In-Charge.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper organization of pharmacy shelves and storage areas.
- Assist with pharmacy stock entries, issue/return records, and HMIS/software transactions.
- Support preparation of pharmacy indents and stock requirements.
- Assist in receiving medicines from stores/vendors and verifying quantities against documents.
- Support segregation and documentation of expired, damaged, or returned medicines.
- Coordinate with nursing stations, wards, OT, ICU, casualty, and other departments for medicine requirements.
- Maintain proper documentation and filing of pharmacy records.
- Follow hospital SOPs, infection-control practices, medication-safety procedures, and quality standards.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital information.
- Perform other pharmacy-related duties assigned by the Pharmacist/Pharmacy In-Charge.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Qualification:
D.Pharm / B.Pharm preferred; Pharmacy Assistant/Aide candidates with relevant hospital experience may also be considered.
- Experience: 13 years of experience in a hospital pharmacy or retail pharmacy preferred.
- Basic knowledge of medicine names, dosage forms, storage requirements, and expiry management.
- Knowledge of FEFO/FIFO and inventory management.
- Basic computer knowledge and familiarity with HMIS/Pharmacy software preferred.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and hospital departments.
- Good attention to detail and accuracy in stock handling.
- Willingness to work in rotational shifts, including weekends/holidays when required.
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow hospital policies and instructions.
- Candidates with NABH-accredited hospital experience will be preferred.
