About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Tethered Aerostat Operations Manager to lead the deployment, operation, maintenance, and mission readiness of AirBotix’s tethered aerostat systems. The role involves managing multidisciplinary teams responsible for aerostat operations, Ground Control Stations (GCS), payload integration, power systems, communication networks, and field deployments.
The ideal candidate will ensure safe, reliable, and continuous operation of aerostat platforms during testing, demonstrations, customer trials, and operational missions while coordinating with design, electronics, embedded, software, manufacturing, and logistics teams.
This role spans tethered aerostat platforms, ground control infrastructure, autonomous winch systems, payload integration, telemetry networks, and mission operations.
Core Responsibilities Aerostat Operations
- Lead deployment, launch, recovery, and operational activities of tethered aerostat systems.
- Plan and execute field trials, endurance tests, customer demonstrations, and operational missions.
- Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) for launch, recovery, emergency handling, and preventive maintenance.
- Monitor aerostat performance during missions and ensure maximum operational availability.
- Coordinate weather assessment and flight safety before every deployment.
Ground Control Station Operations
- Manage Ground Control Station (GCS) operations including power systems, automation, telemetry, and operator consoles.
- Supervise automated launch and recovery operations.
- Ensure continuous health monitoring of power, communication, sensors, payloads, and tether systems.
- Coordinate troubleshooting of GCS hardware and software during field operations.
- Maintain mission logs, operational records, and maintenance documentation.
Mission Planning & Execution · Plan mission timelines, logistics, manpower, and equipment readiness.
· Coordinate payload integration including EO/IR cameras, radar systems, communication payloads, and telemetry equipment.
· Ensure proper mission configuration for customer-specific operational requirements.
· Support acceptance trials, qualification testing, and military evaluations.
Team Leadership
· Lead operations engineers, field technicians, and deployment teams.
· Allocate manpower for field operations and maintenance activities.
· Conduct technical training for operators and maintenance personnel.
· Drive continuous improvement in operational efficiency and mission readiness.
· Coordinate with Design, Embedded, Electronics, Software, Manufacturing, and Quality Assurance teams.
Maintenance & Reliability
· Develop preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.
· Monitor system health and identify failure trends.
· Coordinate root cause analysis for operational failures.
· Improve equipment reliability through corrective and preventive actions.
· Maintain inventory of critical spares, tools, and field equipment.
Safety & Compliance
· Ensure compliance with aviation, defense, and organizational safety procedures.
· Implement emergency procedures for tether failure, power loss, adverse weather, and communication failures.
· Conduct operational risk assessments before deployments.
· Ensure compliance with applicable quality and documentation standards.
· Promote a robust safety culture across all field operations.
Required Qualifications Experience
· 3-6 years of experience in aerospace, UAV, tethered systems, defense, industrial automation, or related engineering operations.
· Minimum 3 years leading engineering or field operations teams.
· Experience managing outdoor engineering deployments and mission-critical systems.
· Hands-on experience with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

· Industrial automation (PLC, SCADA, HMI)
· MATLAB/Simulink
· Military or aerospace standards (MIL-STD-810, DO-160, IEC 61508)
· Knowledge of RF communication systems
