Streets Division Manager

Job Summary The City of Corsicana is seeking a skilled and experienced individual to serve as Street Division Manager. This position provides working leadership and supervision to multiple street crews including patch, maintenance, drainage, reconstruction, and service center operations. The role ensures high-quality street maintenance and repair while supporting daily operations and long-term planning.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Manage and assist with street repairs, maintenance of roadways, alleys, storm sewers, ramps, drainage systems, and storm structures
- Perform manual labor including grading streets, ditches, alleyways, and parking lots for proper elevation and drainage
- Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, graders, dump trucks, tractors, and sweepers
- Conduct preventive maintenance on equipment, including fueling, oiling, minor repairs, and inspections
- Inspect job sites before, during, and after projects for quality, safety, and compliance
- Supervise assigned staff, oversee daily operations, and assist with administrative duties
- Assign work tasks, monitor workflow, and evaluate performance and methods
- Collaborate with the Assistant Public Works Director on budgeting and cost estimation; manage supply and equipment needs
- Maintain records and prepare operational reports
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Public Works Director

Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate’s degree preferred
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in street and alley construction
- At least 5 years in a supervisory role
- Equivalent combinations of education and municipal work experience may be considered

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Knowledge of grade stakes, transit levels, and reading engineering plans
- Familiarity with street, drainage, and alley construction materials and equipment
- Skilled in operating various heavy equipment and tools
- Proficient in basic computer use, including word processing and spreadsheets
- Understanding of City policies, laws, and regulations affecting operations
- Solid leadership skills with the ability to supervise and motivate crews
- Effective communication skills; able to interact courteously with the public and City staff
- Ability to read, write, and maintain clear and accurate records

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Continuous outdoor work with exposure to extreme weather, noise, dust, chemicals, fumes, and heavy traffic

- Regular physical demands include
- Lifting/carrying up to 80 lbs
- Pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs
- Frequent bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, walking, and operating heavy equipment
- Use of vibrating tools (jackhammers, tampers) and exposure to asphalt and confined spaces
- Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus
- Regular attendance required, including evenings, weekends, nights, and emergency call-outs

- Maintain a 100% drug- and alcohol-free workplace
- Pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
- Be subject to random testing throughout employment
- Possess or obtain within one year:

- Pesticide Applicator’s License

- Have and maintain a valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License – Class A (CDL)
- Maintain a satisfactory driving record
- Demonstrate regular attendance and punctuality
- Successfully complete a one-year probationary period

- The City observes 13 paid holidays
