Designation: Scrub Nurse

Qualification:  Diploma in Nursing (GNM) or BSC Nursing  Fresher-up-to 3 years in any operating room

Experience: 1 to 2 years

Knowledge and Skills:  Communication-English to read, write & speak and Kannada to speak  Sterile techniques  Open surgery instruments  Drugs used in Anesthesia  Basic computer work

Reported by: NA Key Result Area:  Maintain the sterility during procedure  To comply with operating room policy and protocol  To assist the OR manager to maintain the operating room standards

General Responsibilities

- As a scrub nurse  Responsible for packing sets one day prior to surgery for all elective cases  Check the theater is ready for the particular procedure before shifting the patient.  Check that proper handover is taken with all specifications for eg:

-  Restricted movement of limbs  Bony deformity  Blood Availability etc.  Ensure secure shifting of the patient from the transfer bay to OR table  Ensure patient identification board is filled properly and appropriate x-rays are open in the PACS  Review patient file for procedure and diagnosis of the patient before scrubbing.  Participate in time-out

 Check the instruments and materials according to the checklist, before starting the procedure  Count the gauze, mop and peanuts as per the protocol.  Check the counted gauze is entered on the patient identification board.



 Assist during the surgical procedure by anticipating and providing the necessary sterile instruments or materials as needed.  Check that the specimen or biopsy has been sent as per the protocol.  Check that the billing sheet and OR replacement list is filled properly by circulating nurse, and billing done for particular surgery  Follow sterile techniques / maintain the sterile field throughout the procedure  Shifting the patient to ward / HDU/ICU as per the protocol  Washing endoscopes, camera, fiber optic cables and Laparoscopes  Performing sterrad sterilization and maintain the document  Coordinating Organizing CNE on every Saturday  Check the documentation, fixing and labeling, (which is done by circulating nurse) for below mentioned  Intra-op Medications  Intake and output chart including irrigation  Specimens, Stones, papillae etc for labeling and lab. Request form  Foley, Drains, PCN etc for fixing and labeling  Handover of the patient to the ward nurse along with complete documentation of file, specimen, lab requisition form, proforma etc.

Specific responsibilities  Complete the following CQI’s on daily basis  Compliance to stent register  Unplanned return to OT with-in 48 hours  Operating Room utilization  Complete the OR statistics on 30th or 31st of every month and enter both soft and hard copy  Maintain the assigned soft and hard copy register Hard copy register  Ultrasound register  OR utilization

Supervision:  Work completion by OR assistant, OR technician and housekeeping staff

Participate  General cleanliness and maintenance of OR complex  Continuing nursing education programme
