About the role
You will turn engineering problem specifications into runnable calculation templates Python code plus tests plus a verification & validation (V&V;) document proving the calculation is correct against its source material and you will set the quality bar for the team doing the same. This role carries the technical-leadership elements of a three-engineer team: you lead reviews, sharpen ambiguous specifications with the client team, and mentor two Software Engineer I colleagues. It is an AI-first job: we provide an AI subscription as part of your CTC and expect you to use it daily.
What we hire for is your judgement over what the AI produces engineering correctness, edge cases, and honest V&V.;
Role & responsibilities
- Author Python calculation templates from written problem specifications, with tests and V&V; documentation.
- Convert engineering calculations from Excel and reference documents into Python reading source spreadsheets, mapping formulas.
- Lead review of the team's templates, tests, and V&V; documents via GitHub pull requests; own the quality bar for what ships.
- Refine ambiguous or incomplete problem specifications with the client's technical team before work starts.
- Mentor two Software Engineer I colleagues unblock, pair, raise their review standards.
- Work async in written English with a UK + India team; daily standup at 12:00 noon IST.
Preferred candidate profile
Must have
- 2–3 years of professional software experience, including reviewing other engineers' code.
- Proficient Python; comfortable with JSON and reading Excel formulas.
- Git and the GitHub pull-request workflow.
- Working fluency with AI coding tools (Claude / Copilot / ChatGPT) — and the discipline to verify their output.
- Strong written English; able to turn a vague requirement into a accurate written spec.
- B.E./B.Tech in any engineering discipline, or B.Sc/M.Sc/MCA in a science or computing discipline.
Good to have:
- Domain background in mechanical, civil, structural, chemical, electrical, or finance.
- NumPy/SciPy or other numerical-computing exposure.
- Prior mentoring or tech-lead exposure, however informal.
Compensation & benefits
- 4,80,000/year CTC, fixed — no variable component.
- AI subscription (10,000/month) provided as a CTC benefit.
- 18 days paid leave per year + statutory holidays.
- Fully remote, anywhere in India — we measure outcomes, not hours on camera.
- BYOD: you work on your own machine.
- 90-day probation; notice period 7 days during probation, 30 days after confirmation.
Work timings 12:00 noon – 8:00 PM IST, Monday to Saturday; Sundays off. Hours are aligned to UK business hours and shift by one hour with UK daylight saving.
Hiring process
- Round 1: 30-minute screening call.
- Round 2: take-home task (Excel to Python, 2–4 hours, self-paced).
- Round 3: 60-minute live technical interview.
- Round 4: final culture-fit conversation.
