Key Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance & Advisory: Prepare and review tax returns for individuals, companies, and trusts; provide strategic tax advice.
- Financial Analysis: Interpret financial statements and assess tax implications for clients.
- Client Management: Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring high levels of service and satisfaction.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and develop junior accountants; provide technical guidance and support.
- Workflow Management: Allocate tasks, monitor progress, and ensure deadlines are met during peak tax periods.
- Quality Assurance: Review work for accuracy and compliance with tax laws and firm standards.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency within the team.
- Professional Development: Stay current with changes in tax legislation and accounting standards; share knowledge with the team.
- Technology Utilization: Ensure effective use of Xero and other accounting software across the team.
Technical & Analytical Skills
- Australian Tax Expertise: Comprehensive and current knowledge of Australian tax laws and regulations for individuals, companies, and trusts.
- Advanced Excel Proficiency: Ability to use complex formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis tools for financial reporting and tax calculations.
- Accounting Software:
Strong experience with Xero and other tax/accounting platforms; Xero Certification highly desirable.
- Problem-Solving: Skilled in identifying tax issues, researching solutions, and applying critical thinking to complex scenarios.
- Financial Analysis: Ability to interpret financial statements and assess tax implications to provide strategic advice.
Soft & Professional Skills
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in data entry and compliance with tax regulations.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills to explain complex tax concepts to clients and team members.
- Time Management: Solid organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines during peak periods.
- Client Relationship Management: Ability to build trust and maintain long-term professional relationships.
- Ethical Judgment: Demonstrates integrity and skilled skepticism when handling sensitive financial information.
- Adaptability: Comfortable with frequent changes in tax laws and technology.
- Teamwork: Collaborative approach to working within a team environment.
Non-negotiable skills and requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
- Professional Accreditation: CA or CPA designation preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 4 years in public practice accounting, with a focus on tax compliance and advisory.
