Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Azure Cosmos DB Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, optimize, and support enterprise-scale distributed databases. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring high availability, peak performance, robust security, and cost efficiency across mission-critical Cosmos DB deployments.

Key Responsibilities1. Database Administration & Operations

- Manage and maintain enterprise Azure Cosmos DB environments.

- Monitor overall health, performance, and availability of Cosmos DB accounts, containers, and workloads.

- Perform capacity planning, Request Units (RU/s) management, and partition key optimization.

- Maintain strict SLA adherence for availability, latency, and throughput.

2. Performance & Cost Optimization

- Analyze query performance and optimize indexing policies, partitioning strategies, and data models.

- Rightsize RU provisioning and implement autoscale strategies to minimize infrastructure costs.

- Identify and remediate hot partitions and inefficient query execution patterns.

- Implement caching strategies and optimize SDK usage where applicable.

3. Reliability, Backup & Disaster Recovery (DR)

- Configure and manage multi-region replication and failover policies.





- Validate backup and restore processes (both continuous and periodic backup modes).

- Define, maintain, and execute DR runbooks aligned to RTO/RPO requirements.

- Participate in periodic DR drills and system resilience validation exercises.

4. Security & Compliance

- Implement and enforce Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Managed Identities, and network security controls (Private Endpoints, VNet integration, NSGs).

- Ensure end-to-end encryption (at-rest and in-transit) in compliance with enterprise security standards.

- Support regulatory audits and compliance frameworks (SOX, SOC, etc.).

5. Automation & DevOps Integration

- Automate infrastructure provisioning and administration using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools like Ansible.

- Integrate Cosmos DB operational management into CI/CD pipelines.

- Develop automated scripts and runbooks for proactive monitoring, alerting, and incident remediation.

6. Monitoring & Observability

- Utilize Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights for deep telemetry.

- Build custom dashboards and alerts for proactive performance management.

- Partner with full-stack observability platforms (e.g., Dynatrace) for comprehensive monitoring.

7. Collaboration & Support





- Collaborate with application development teams on data access patterns and performance tuning.

- Provide L3/L4 technical support for production incidents and conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA).

- Contribute to cloud architecture reviews, strategy discussions, and migration initiatives.

- Practical knowledge of NoSQL data modeling principles for distributed architectures.

- Proficiency with toolsets and APIs:

- Azure Portal, Azure CLI, PowerShell

- Cosmos DB APIs (SQL Core, MongoDB, Cassandra)

Cloud Platform Expertise

- Deep technical expertise in Microsoft Azure.

- Demonstrated experience with
- Multi-region enterprise architectures.

- High availability (HA) configurations and automated failover strategies.

- Enterprise networking components (VNets, Private Endpoints, NSGs).

Nice-to-Have Skills

- Secondary Databases: Hands-on experience with native MongoDB, DynamoDB, or equivalent distributed stores.

- Theoretical Concepts: Solid grasp of the CAP theorem, eventual consistency, and trade-offs in distributed systems design.
