About the Role:
We are looking for a Senior SDET with deep expertise in both UI and API test automation. You will lead the design and implementation of scalable test frameworks, champion quality across the engineering lifecycle, and mentor junior team members. You will work closely with developers, product managers, and architects to embed quality from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect, build, and maintain robust UI and API test automation frameworks from scratch or enhance existing ones.
- Design and execute comprehensive test strategies covering functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end scenarios.
- Lead API testing efforts — validating REST endpoints for correctness, performance, security, and contract compliance.
- Drive shift-left testing by collaborating early in the sprint cycle with developers and product owners.
- Integrate automated test suites into GitLab CI/CD pipelines and manage pipeline configurations.
- Perform root cause analysis on test failures and production defects; provide clear, actionable bug reports.
- Log, track, and manage defects end-to-end using Jira; ensure traceability between test cases and defects.
- Manage test cases, test plans, and test execution cycles in qTest.
- Define test coverage metrics, reporting dashboards, and quality KPIs for stakeholders.
- Mentor and guide junior SDETs and QA engineers on automation best practices.
- Evaluate and recommend new tools, frameworks, and testing approaches as the product scales.
- Contribute to code reviews with a quality-first lens.
Must-Have Skills:
- 5–9 years of hands-on SDET or QA automation experience in an agile environment.
- UI automation expertise using Selenium or Playwright.
- API testing proficiency using Postman.
- Experience with any test automation framework (e.g. TestNG, JUnit, pytest, or Mocha/Jest).
- Proficient in Jira — creating, triaging, and tracking defects; linking issues to test cases and user stories.
- Experience with qTest for test case management, test plan creation, and execution reporting.
- Solid grasp of test design techniques: boundary value analysis,
equivalence partitioning, exploratory testing.
Good to Have:
- Java knowledge for test automation.
- Version control proficiency with Git — branching, PRs, merge requests, and code review workflow.
- Performance & load testing experience with JMeter, Gatling, or k6.
- BDD framework experience with Cucumber, SpecFlow, or Behave.
- Contract testing knowledge with Pact or similar tools.
- Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration basics (Kubernetes).
- Mobile test automation experience with Appium or Detox.
- Cloud platform familiarity — AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Familiarity with observability tools — Splunk, Datadog, or New Relic.
Soft Skills & Mindset:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills — able to debug complex, flaky test scenarios.
- Excellent communication skills — can articulate quality risks clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Self-driven and proactive — identifies gaps and takes ownership without being asked.
- Collaborative team player who thrives in cross-functional agile teams.
- Continuous learner who stays current with emerging testing tools and trends.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5–9 years of proven experience in SDET or automation-heavy QA roles.
- Demonstrated ability to lead automation initiatives and mentor others.
- Robust portfolio of automation frameworks built or significantly contributed to.
