Kalam Labs develops Near Space Aerial Vehicles for the Indian Military. Our systems operate at altitudes above 100,000 ft, conducting stealth surveillance, kamikaze, and meteorological missions beyond the reach of enemy air defences. Our systems have been procured by the Indian Army, and we have active R&D; programmes underway with the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy. All platforms — airframes, avionics, and propulsion — are designed and manufactured in-house.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Sr. Composite Engineer to lead the production of advanced carbon fibre airframes for our aerial vehicles. From complex mould design through to flight-ready structural assembly, you will own the composites manufacturing process. This is a highly hands-on, workshop-floor leadership position where you will directly impact the performance and scalability of our platforms.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a highly skilled engineer with deep, specialized expertise in advanced composite manufacturing. You should have a proven track record of scaling composite production, optimizing layup processes, designing composite tooling, and guiding fabrication teams in a fast-paced hardware environment.

Responsibilities

- Lead the end-to-end manufacturing of carbon fibre airframes: advanced layup techniques (wet and/or pre-preg), vacuum bagging, resin infusion, curing cycles, trimming, structural bonding,



and final assembly.
- Design, fabricate, and validate complex composite moulds, plugs, jigs, and fixtures to support precise and scalable production.
- Establish quality control and inspection standards; conduct defect analysis (e.g., delamination, voids) and implement advanced repair procedures and corrective actions.
- Develop comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions; drive continuous improvement initiatives to drastically optimize structural weight, material waste, and production cycle times.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and workshop technicians, ensuring strict adherence to quality and safety standards on the floor.

Qualifications

- Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Materials Science, Production Engineering, or equivalent hands-on advanced fabrication experience.
- 3+ years of dedicated, hands-on experience in advanced composite manufacturing (carbon fibre, epoxy resin systems, vacuum infusion).
- Strong proficiency in designing tooling/moulds and operating standard workshop machinery (lathe, milling, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to lead a shop-floor team, manage production schedules, and troubleshoot complex composite defects.
