Mascar in one page
Mascar is a family-owned Italian manufacturer of agricultural machinery, founded in 1966 and based near Vicenza. Our core products are round and square balers, tedders, and rakes machinery for handling hay, straw, and increasingly, crop residue for biomass energy. Our flagship models CORSA 420 and MONSTER are already on the ground in India.
We are small, engineering-led, and privately held. We are not competing with Mahindra, Escorts, or John Deere on volume. We compete on build quality, after-sales service, and a specific technical fit for European-style dense baling that is now becoming valuable in India as biomass demand grows.
Reporting line
Peer to the Service Manager. Direct line, day one, to Mascar SpA leadership in Vicenza, Mariateresa Maschio (General Management) and Marco Calandra (Export).
Location
Ludhiana, Punjab. Some flexibility on the exact base if the right candidate is in Chandigarh, Jalandhar, or Amritsar. The role is heavily field-based expect 18 to 21 days of travel per month across Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, with occasional trips further afield.
What this person owns
- The annual India sales number for balers.
- New account acquisition into biomass power plants, CBG project developers, large agri retailers, dealer chains, and custom-hiring contractors.
- Sales process: pipeline management, forecast accuracy, quote-to-cash discipline, collection follow-through.
- Market intelligence pricing, competitor moves (Mahindra Baler, Krishi King, Sonalika, John Deere balers, Chinese imports), tender opportunities, government subsidy schemes.
- Working closely with the Service Manager so that every sale is supported by service capability.
This is a functional partnership, not a hierarchy.
Who we are looking for
- 8 to 12 years of B2B capital equipment sales experience in India. Ideally agricultural machinery, construction equipment, or industrial equipment. Someone who has sold a machine that costs INR 8 lakhs and up, to a buyer who has other options.
- Direct experience selling into North India, especially Punjab and Haryana.
- Track record of opening current accounts, not just farming an inherited territory. We can check this in the interview we will ask you to name three accounts you opened.
- Fluent English and Hindi.
Working
Punjabi is a strong plus. You will be presenting to Italian principals in English and closing deals with Punjabi farmers and biomass plant procurement teams in the local language. Hindi is also required.
- Comfortable with 18+ days of field travel per month. This is a road job.
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Engineering, or Business. MBA is welcome but not required if the sales record is strong.
What we will appreciate
- Prior exposure to the biomass supply chain either selling into biomass plants, or working with paddy straw collection contractors, or with CBG project developers.
- Existing relationships with dealer networks in Punjab or Haryana for ag equipment.
- Financial literacy you can read a customer's balance sheet and understand payment risk before you sign an order.
- Experience working with Italian, German, or Japanese principals is a bonus. You will understand the pace and the questions.
What comes next This is a new company in a recent market that grew 2x on its first year. The person who wins in this role will have three things in front of them within 24 months:
- A significantly expanded territory as we add states — Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and central- south India.
- A real seat at the table as we build Mascar India from the ground up. We are not opening a branch office. We are building a company, and the person in this role will help shape how it looks together with the service manager.
Why we are hiring Mascar planned to send x balers to India last year. We sent 2x.
The India business is real, and it is growing faster than we planned for.
So far, one person has held the whole country together — sales, service, dealer coordination, customer relationships, everything. He has been outstanding at service and at building trust on the ground. That is why the numbers moved. But we have hit the limit of what one person can do, and we are honest about where the next unit of growth has to come from: proactive selling into segments we have barely touched.
This is that role.
We have decided and are opening Mascar India Pvt Ltd as our own legal entity. The Sales Manager we hire now will work alongside a Service Manager — one focused on winning new business, one focused on keeping existing customers running.
