Production Manager – Garment Unit To manage and control the overall garment production operations of the unit and ensure achievement of production targets, quality standards, productivity, efficiency, manpower utilization, cost objectives and on-time delivery.

The Production Manager is responsible for effective production planning and execution, line balancing, manpower deployment, capacity utilization, production performance monitoring and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities A. Production Planning & Execution

- Ensure daily, weekly and monthly production targets are achieved as per the production plan.
- Convert the production plan into effective line-wise and operation-wise execution plans.
- Monitor production against planned quantities and take immediate corrective action for shortfalls.
- Ensure smooth flow of materials from cutting to sewing, finishing, packing and dispatch.
- Coordinate with PPC, IE, Cutting, Quality, Maintenance, Stores and Finishing departments.
- Ensure production priorities are followed according to shipment requirements.
- Monitor WIP at different stages and avoid excess accumulation or line starvation.

B. Line Management & Capacity Utilization
- Plan and allocate styles/orders to appropriate production lines based on capacity and skill requirements.
- Ensure optimum utilization of sewing lines, machines, manpower and working hours.
- Review line loading and capacity on a daily basis.
- Ensure effective line balancing to achieve required output and efficiency.
- Identify bottleneck operations and take corrective action.
- Ensure smooth style changeover and minimize changeover losses.
- Improve line productivity through effective manpower and machine utilization.

C. Manpower Management
- Ensure optimum deployment of tailors, helpers, checkers, supervisors and other production manpower.
- Monitor daily manpower availability, absenteeism and manpower productivity.
- Work with HR and Training Centre to address manpower shortages.
- Identify skill gaps and arrange appropriate training/retraining.
- Ensure newly trained operators are deployed based on skill level and production requirements.
- Develop and retain competent line supervisors and senior operators.
- Maintain appropriate Tailor : Non-Tailor ratio and continuously improve manpower productivity.

D. Productivity & Efficiency
- Achieve targeted line efficiency and productivity.
- Monitor hourly production and identify deviations from targets.
- Review operator-wise and line-wise productivity.
- Improve machine utilization and reduce idle time.
- Drive productivity improvement initiatives through line balancing,



method improvement and operator skill enhancement.
- Work closely with Industrial Engineering to implement SAM/SMV-based productivity improvements.
- Monitor and reduce production losses, downtime and non-value-added activities.

E. Quality Control
- Ensure production is carried out in accordance with approved quality standards and specifications.
- Coordinate closely with Quality Assurance and Quality Control teams.
- Ensure quality issues are identified and corrected at source.
- Minimize DHU, rework, rejection and alteration.
- Ensure operators follow approved methods and quality checkpoints.
- Take corrective action for recurring quality problems.
- Ensure first-piece approval and style-wise quality requirements are followed.

F. Delivery & Shipment
- Ensure production is completed according to the committed shipment schedule.
- Closely monitor critical orders and production status.
- Escalate potential delivery risks immediately to Unit Head/PPC/Management.
- Prioritize production based on shipment urgency and customer requirements.
- Coordinate with finishing and packing teams to ensure timely order completion.

G. Production Performance Monitoring
- Review daily production reports and production KPIs.
- Monitor:
- Planned vs. actual production
- Line efficiency
- Productivity
- DHU/rework
- Absenteeism
- Manpower utilization
- Machine utilization
- WIP
- Rejection
- Downtime
- Changeover time
- On-time production/delivery
- Conduct daily production review meetings with Line Supervisors and relevant departments.
- Analyse production losses and implement corrective actions.

H. Cost Control
- Control production-related manpower and operational costs.
- Minimize overtime, rework, rejection, excess manpower and idle time.
- Improve productivity without compromising quality.
- Monitor consumption of production resources and reduce unnecessary wastage.
- Support management in achieving cost-per-garment targets.

I. Coordination with Other Departments

Maintain effective coordination with

- PPC – Production planning and order priorities
- Industrial Engineering – Capacity, SMV, line balancing and productivity
- Quality – Quality standards, DHU, defects and corrective actions
- Cutting – Input availability and cutting plan
- Finishing & Packing – Output flow and shipment readiness




- Maintenance – Machine breakdowns and preventive maintenance
- Stores – Material availability
- HR – Manpower planning, attendance, discipline and recruitment
- Training Centre – Skill development and operator conversion
- Commercial/Merchandising – Order and shipment requirements

Daily Responsibilities
- Review previous day's production performance.
- Review today's production plan and line loading.
- Check manpower availability and absenteeism.
- Review line-wise targets and hourly production.
- Identify bottlenecks and take immediate action.
- Monitor quality and rework issues.
- Monitor machine breakdowns and downtime.
- Review WIP and material availability.
- Conduct production review with supervisors.
- Ensure critical orders receive appropriate priority.
- Report production status and major issues to Unit Head/DUH.

Weekly / Monthly Responsibilities
- Review production achievement against monthly plan.
- Analyse line-wise efficiency and productivity.
- Review manpower requirement and deployment.
- Review absenteeism and manpower productivity.
- Analyse quality losses and rework.
- Review machine utilization and downtime.
- Identify productivity improvement opportunities.
- Prepare action plans for underperforming lines.
- Review performance of Production Supervisors and Line Supervisors.
- Support manpower and capacity planning for upcoming orders.
- Participate in monthly business and production review meetings.

Required Qualifications
- Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Garment Technology, Textile Technology, Apparel Production, Industrial Engineering or related discipline.
- Relevant certification in garment production/operations will be an added advantage.

Experience
- 8–12 years of relevant experience in garment manufacturing.
- Minimum 3–5 years in a supervisory/managerial production role.
- Experience in handling multiple sewing lines and large production teams preferred.
- Robust experience in woven/knit garment manufacturing, depending on the unit's product profile.

Pay: ₹50,000.00 - ₹75,000.00 per month
