Perfusionist

Key Responsibilities Operate the heart-lung (cardiopulmonary bypass) machine during cardiac and major vascular surgeries. Prepare, prime, and maintain the cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) circuit before surgical procedures. Monitor and regulate blood flow, oxygenation, temperature, anticoagulation, and other physiological parameters during surgery. Assist surgeons and anesthesiologists in managing extracorporeal circulation throughout the procedure. Operate and manage intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), cell saver, ECMO, and other perfusion-related equipment, where applicable. Ensure proper functioning, maintenance, calibration, and quality checks of perfusion equipment. Maintain accurate perfusion records, case documentation, and equipment maintenance logs. Monitor inventory and availability of perfusion consumables and equipment. Adhere to infection control practices, patient safety protocols, and biomedical waste management guidelines. Ensure compliance with NABH standards, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements. Participate in emergency cardiac surgeries and be available for on-call duties as required. Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, OT staff, ICU,



and biomedical engineering teams for seamless patient care. Participate in departmental meetings, CMEs, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing professional education.

Qualifications &

Experience B.Sc.

Cardiac Perfusion

Technology / Bachelor of Perfusion Technology (BPT) or equivalent. Minimum 3 years of experience as a Cardiac Perfusionist in a multispecialty or tertiary care hospital.

Experience in handling adult and pediatric cardiac surgeries is preferred.

Experience in ECMO and IABP management will be an added advantage.

Skills &

Competencies Solid knowledge of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) techniques and perfusion protocols. Expertise in operating heart-lung machines and perfusion equipment. Knowledge of ECMO, IABP, and cell saver systems.

Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to respond effectively during cardiac emergencies. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Basic computer knowledge and documentation skills.

Commitment to patient safety, quality care, and infection control practices. Willingness to work in rotational shifts, emergency cases, weekends, and on-call duties.
