About The Opportunity A growing eye-care practice working to increase access to high-quality ophthalmic services across North Karnataka is seeking a Consultant Ophthalmologist to join an on-site clinical team in Gadag. The role welcomes fresh postgraduates and experienced consultants who can deliver patient-centred care and support surgical throughput for cataract and common anterior/posterior segment conditions.
Role & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive outpatient ophthalmology consultations, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment plans for adults and children.
- Perform cataract surgeries (phacoemulsification and SICS) and related intraocular procedures with consistent surgical outcomes and documentation.
- Carry out routine minor procedures and laser treatments (YAG, retinal laser) and manage pre-/post-operative care and follow-ups.
- Use diagnostic tools (slit lamp, indirect ophthalmoscope, B-scan, tonometry) to evaluate anterior and posterior segment pathology and guide management.
- Coordinate with optometry and theatre teams to optimise patient flow, sterilisation protocols, and surgical scheduling.
- Participate in community outreach camps, screening initiatives, and health education to expand service reach in the region.
Skills & Qualifications Must-Have
- MS (Ophthalmology) or DOMS qualification
- Registration with the Medical Council of India/State Medical Council and valid licence to practice in Karnataka
- Clinical competence in cataract surgery with ability to perform phacoemulsification and SICS independently
- Experience using slit lamp biomicroscopy, indirect ophthalmoscopy, tonometry and B-scan for diagnosis
- Ability to perform common ophthalmic laser procedures (e.g., YAG capsulotomy, retinal laser)
- Willingness to work full-time on-site in Gadag and participate in outreach camps
Preferred
- Fellowship or training in a subspecialty (Cornea, Retina, Pediatric Ophthalmology or Oculoplastic)
- Prior experience in high-volume cataract programs or community eye camps
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) for ophthalmology
