Job Purpose The NPD Projects Manager is responsible for coordinating the successful delivery of all New Product Development (NPD), customer product launch and innovation projects across Monty's Bakehouse. The role owns the Product Development project governance framework, ensuring projects are effectively planned, resourced, communicated and delivered through a robust but practical governance process from concept approval through to successful commercial launch.
Working closely with all other functions of the business and our outsourced manufacturing partners, the NPD Projects Manager provides the structure, governance and project management required to deliver projects efficiently, taking ownership of agreed project activities whilst ensuring stakeholders remain aligned throughout the development process The role also provides project management support to wider business improvement initiatives as required by the Chief Operating Officer. The role is the custodian of the company's project governance framework, ensuring projects are effectively planned, coordinated, monitored and reported, whilst enabling efficient and collaborative delivery across the business.
Key Accountabilities
- Own and develop the Product Development project governance framework, ensuring projects are managed through a practical stage-gate process that supports effective decision making, clear accountability and successful delivery without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Manage the delivery of Product Development projects through effective planning, governance and coordination,
taking ownership of agreed project activities to ensure milestones, actions and deliverables are completed in line with agreed objectives and timescales.
- Manage cross-functional project activities, coordinating stakeholders whilst personally delivering agreed project actions and supporting teams to overcome issues that may impact project delivery.
- Manage project governance and reporting, chairing project review meetings, producing portfolio reporting and KPI dashboards, escalating risks where appropriate and ensuring project issues are resolved promptly.
- Champion continuous improvement, coaching colleagues in effective project management disciplines, reviewing completed projects, identifying lessons learned and continually improving project governance, ways of working and cross-functional collaboration.
- Ensure project stakeholders receive accurate, timely and consistent information regarding project status, milestones, risks, actions and key decisions, maintaining clear communication throughout the Product Development lifecycle.
- Manage the delivery of strategic business improvement projects, providing project management support to the Chief Operating Officer on operational and organisational initiatives outside the Product function where structured project management expertise is required.
Experience And Skills Required
- Demonstrable project management experience within FMCG, food manufacturing or a similarly fast-paced commercial workplace.
- Experience coordinating multiple concurrent projects involving cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of structured project management methodologies, project governance, risk management and project reporting.
- Experience working with outsourced manufacturing partners and customer-led product development programmes would be advantageous.
- Able to balance structured project governance with commercial pragmatism,
recognising when flexibility is required to support customer needs whilst maintaining appropriate control and stakeholder alignment.
- Highly organised with excellent planning, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Comfortable operating in an agile environment where priorities change and pace is essential.
