Legal Assistant – GSTAT, Uttar Pradesh

Clearway Legal is inviting applications from qualified and experienced Law Graduates/Advocates for the position of Legal Assistant proposed to be deployed before/with the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT), Uttar Pradesh.

The selected candidates will assist the Hon’ble Members and Registry in judicial, legal, research and registry-related functions.

Number of Positions: 1

Engagement: Contractual

Contract Period: 1 year, extendable/terminable depending upon requirement and applicable terms.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

1. Educational Qualification — Mandatory

- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized University/Institution.
- Candidates with a strong academic record will be preferred.

2. Relevant Experience — Mandatory The candidate must satisfy either of the following: Option A — Government Department Experience

- Minimum 1 year of experience in:
- Customs
- Central Excise
- Service Tax
- VAT
- State Tax
- Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department

OR Option B — Legal/Professional Experience

- Minimum 1 year of experience in a:
- Court
- Tribunal
- Law Firm
- CA Firm

where the candidate has handled GST or indirect-tax matters. DIGITAL & LEGAL RESEARCH SKILLS

Candidates must have good working knowledge of:

- MS Office / Microsoft Word and Excel
- Computer operations and data processing
- Online legal research
- E-office / e-governance systems
- E-Courts
- SCC Online
- Manupatra
- Tax law research platforms, including Taxmann, wherever applicable

Candidates possessing a recognized computer qualification such as DCA / PGDCA / NIELIT / CCC or equivalent will be preferred. Experience using legal research and e-governance platforms will be an added advantage.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The Legal Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Hon’ble Members and Registry with:





- Scrutiny of appeals, applications and annexures.
- Legal research concerning GST laws, rules, notifications, circulars and judicial precedents.
- Research on GST and indirect-tax issues.
- Assisting the Hon’ble Members during court/Tribunal proceedings.
- Preparation and processing of judicial and Registry-related files.
- Examination and organization of case records and documents.
- Data processing and e-office work.
- Online legal research and preparation of research material.
- Assisting in compilation of case laws, statutory provisions and relevant notifications.
- Any other judicial, legal or registry-related work assigned by the Hon’ble Bench/Registry.

IMPORTANT TERMS

- The engagement is contractual and temporary and will be subject to the terms applicable to the GSTAT engagement.
- The selected candidate may be required to work at any GSTAT Bench under the jurisdiction of Uttar Pradesh, subject to deployment requirements.
- During the period of engagement, the Legal Assistant will be required to maintain strict confidentiality concerning Tribunal records, proceedings and official information.
- The position requires integrity, discipline, professionalism and devotion to duty.
- The selected Legal Assistant shall not undertake any other professional engagement, employment or legal practice during the contract period.
- Selected personnel may not be changed without the requisite approval.
- Candidates should be willing to work in a formal judicial/Tribunal environment.
