Lead – Planning & Strategy
Location: Mumbai / Delhi
Experience: ~10–12 years
Reports to: CEO
CTC: 27L + 3L annual retention bonus The role
Scatter is looking for a senior planning leader who can turn business problems, brand challenges, and consumer insights into a clear strategic direction, campaign architecture, and content strategy.
We are looking for someone who can lead the thinking , build a robust planning team around them, and work closely with creative, client servicing and specialist teams to translate strategy into work that performs.
The role spans three important areas of Scatter's business: existing clients, growth within those clients, and recent-business pitches.
What will you own
1. Brand and communication strategy
Take business and marketing problems and find the strategic problem underneath them. You should be comfortable working across brand and communication strategy, consumer and cultural insight, category understanding, positioning and messaging, content strategy, and strategic narratives. The expected output is a clear point of view that gives teams a powerful place to go.
2. Campaign architecture
Turn insights and strategic direction into campaign and content architecture. This means answering questions such as - What is the central idea? What are the stories around it? How does it sustain beyond one execution? How should different formats and platforms contribute to the larger idea? You'll work closely with Creative to ensure the strategy survives the journey from brief to execution.
3. Better briefs
Own the quality of strategic and creative briefs across significant accounts and campaigns. A great brief at Scatter should identify the real problem, contain a genuine insight, establish a clear strategic proposition, give Creative enough direction without prescribing the answer, and provide a basis against which the eventual work can be evaluated.
4. Strategic leadership on existing accounts
Some accounts require substantial ongoing strategic involvement, while others require it only at specific moments. You'll identify where planning genuinely adds value and ensure the right level of senior and team involvement rather than inserting strategy into every piece of work. This includes working with BD,
CS and Creative on major campaigns, new briefs, account challenges and opportunities to deepen existing relationships.
5. Platform thinking — through specialists The planning head brings together brand and communication planning, content planning and platform specialists. You will lead this mix of capabilities, ensuring that consumer insight, brand thinking and campaign architecture translate effectively into content and platform strategy.
Your role is to know when specialist expertise is required, connect it to the larger strategy, and ensure the different capabilities operate as a single planning team. You need to orchestrate the right planning capability against the problem/opportunity.
6. Creative effectiveness and performance interpretation
Work with CS, Creative and specialist teams to understand what worked, what didn't, what audiences responded to, what performance data is telling us, and what should change in the next iteration? You don't need to be a media or performance-marketing specialist. You do need to be comfortable interrogating results and turning them into better strategic and creative decisions.
7. Pitches and organic growth
Be one of Scatter's senior strategic voices in pitches and growth opportunities. This includes interrogating the brief, identifying the strategic opportunity, developing the pitch narrative, working with Creative on the central idea, presenting and defending the thinking with senior clients, and identifying strategic opportunities within existing accounts. We expect that our best pitches will improve materially because of your involvement.
8. Build the Planning team
You will inherit a team rather than start with a blank sheet. There is existing content-planning capability, including experienced people who understand Scatter and its clients,
younger strategists at the beginning of their careers, and open roles for specialists. A significant part of your job is to strengthen this group.
That means coaching and developing planners, determining who should own what, creating transparent levels of responsibility, reviewing and improving thinking, helping specialists work together rather than in silos, identifying capability gaps, creating opportunities for people to step up, and ensuring strategic knowledge remains within Scatter rather than residing with individual people. Your success is not measured only by how good a strategist you are. It is measured by how effective the strategy team becomes under your leadership.
What we'd like you to bring
- 10+ years in brand, communication, content or integrated planning. Agency experience is a must.
- Strong grounding in consumer insight and brand strategy
- Evidence of turning insight into campaign architecture
- Experience writing and evaluating strong creative briefs
- Experience working closely with senior creative leaders
- Comfort interpreting campaign and content performance
- Strong client-room presence
- Significant pitch experience
- Experience managing and developing planners
- Intellectual curiosity about how platforms, culture and consumer behaviour are changing
- Comfort working across different kinds of businesses rather than one narrow category.
What success could look like In the first 90 days: Understand Scatter's major businesses, establish strong relationships with CS and Creative, take strategic ownership of priority accounts and pitches, assess the Planning team, and establish a clear review rhythm.
Within six months:
The team should be producing stronger briefs and campaign thinking with less dependence on the Head personally; social specialists should be integrated into Planning rather than operating as an isolated execution layer; and strategic learning from performance should increasingly flow back into the work.
Within a year:
Scatter should have a Planning function—not simply a collection of good planners.
