§ Each technician is responsible for quality and integrity of the services they are providing.

§ They can also be responsible for functioning of blood bank. During their posting in blood bank they will be performing all duties of a blood bank technician.

§ To collect specimens from wards (admitted patients) whenever ordered for.

§ They should not divulge medical information of patients to anyone other than those who are authorized to receive it.

§ They should maintain a health relationship with fellow workers.

§ They will be responsible for all stock (equipments, instruments & consumable) placed under their charge.

§ They will also indent any item for replacement and/or replenishment from general stores.

§ They will be responsible for proper running of all equipments and if any item is giving error/defective, they will get it rectified from maintenance department/Biomedical department. They will also take care of equipment log cards/log books.





§ Taking sample from patients as per orders of the doctor, performing the required tests and handing over the reports to the MO for further management of patient.

§ When the specimen is collected, they should be properly marked and kept on the counter so that the specimens of the patients do not get mixed up. While test in the specimens, the test tubes, slides etc. should be properly marked with code numbers.

§ All the slides, test tubes and other glassware must be cleaned the same evening before finishing the duty.

§ The microscope lens must be cleaned daily so that no dust, oil etc. stick to the lens which latter on becomes difficult to remove.

§ The technician will maintain records on the OPD register and on the Daily report (Medical) regarding all tests done by him for future reference & follow up for patients. There should not be any delay and it is duty of the laboratory technician to explain to the patient clearly regarding the nature of tests conducted.
