? Hiring: Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for DST Project
Public Transport Analytics, Modelling and Simulation
Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Chennai
Applications are invited for a Junior Research Fellow position under a Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India-funded research project .
The project involves public-transportation analytics, travel-demand modelling, simulation and technology-driven solutions for Chennai’s bus transportation system.
Fellowship
• GATE-qualified candidates: ₹40,300 per month
• Non-GATE candidates: Fellowship will vary according to applicable DST norms
Key responsibilities
• Analyse public-transportation, mobility and geospatial data
• Develop transportation and travel-behaviour models
• Conduct simulation, optimisation and computational studies
• Coordinate project and data-related activities with the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), Chennai
• Prepare technical reports, project documentation and presentations
• Contribute to drafting high-quality journal papers and conference publications
• Support field activities and ensure the timely completion of project deliverables
Eligible qualifications
• M.E./M.Tech.
in Transportation Engineering
• M.Tech. in Infrastructure Engineering and Management
• M.Plan. in Urban Planning
• M.Tech. in Remote Sensing or Geoinformatics
• MBA in Logistics and Supply Chain Management
• M.Sc. in Mathematics, preferably with experience in Optimisation
• M.Sc. in Statistics
Preferred profile
We are looking for a dedicated, responsible and research-oriented candidate with robust analytical and technical-writing abilities. Knowledge of transportation modelling, statistical analysis, optimisation, GIS, Python/R or simulation software will be an advantage.
