About The Role The Head Project Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the entire project management function within an interior design company. This strategic leadership role involves managing a portfolio of complex, high-value interior design projects, such as corporate office fit-outs, hospitality renovations, and commercial space transformations, while ensuring alignment with client goals, company standards, and industry best practices.
The Head Project
Manager provides direction, mentorship, and guidance to a team of project managers, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence. This role also involves high-level client interaction, resource management, and oversight of all project phases, ensuring the timely, cost-effective, and high-quality delivery of design solutions.
Strategy Formulation What Makes the Role Successful:
- Implement an appropriate and effective project or programme management framework, incorporating necessary review processes as required.
- Define and implement criteria for control and management of the project.
- Coordinate and direct end-user input throughout the project lifecycle.
- Appraise options and submit to the Client for approval.
- Manage project budget,
including risk allowance.
- Monitor and control changes/variations following approval by Client.
Client Relationship Management
- Seek opportunities to enhance the client's return on investment and overall value.
- Proactively identify and resolve disputes in a timely and fair manner.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with client representatives, consultants, contractors, and neighboring property owners.
- Oversee and coordinate the project handover phase with contractors, client contractors, tenants, and building managers to ensure a seamless transition.
Business Operations
- Facilitate collaboration and foster teamwork among all project stakeholders.
- Implement mechanisms for collaborative problem-solving with the site delivery team, including regular discussions with contractors, team collaboration, and risk-sharing approaches.
- Apply effective people management practices to ensure that Space Matrix staff, contractors, and Joint Venture partners work cohesively and create a supportive environment to achieve both project and individual goals.
- Manage the well-being and motivation of Space Matrix team members, providing leadership, guidance, and encouragement.
- Plan and conduct annual performance reviews in alignment with Space Matrix's processes.
- Establish formal reporting structures to update the client and the company on project progress.
- Negotiate and finalize contracts as required for the project.
- Oversee the contract award process to ensure adequate protection for both the client and Space Matrix.
- Lead meetings, ensuring timely follow-up on actions captured in the minutes.
- Review and approve all payment certificates and invoices with accuracy.
- Ensure the accurate closure of client accounts, provide well-supported recommendations for variations, and ensure timely payment of contractors and consultants per contract terms.

What We’re Looking For
- Project management professional with a minimum of 15 years of experience in the building construction industry and at least 4-5 years of leadership experience managing a team.
- Relevant experience in managing corporate/workplace interior fit-out projects.
- A degree in Architecture, Civil or Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of individual trades and subcontractors relevant to interior fit-outs.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment without compromising on quality and customer satisfaction.
- Ability to work well under pressure and independently with minimal supervision.
