Position Overview

We are seeking a talented and passionate Fashion Design Faculty member with a background in fashion to join our academic team. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in Fashion principles and apply them to fashion design education. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching fashion design courses, guiding students through studio work and projects, and contributing to the development of a robust academic curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

- Teaching and Instruction:
- Teach undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses in fashion design, incorporating design principles.
- Develop and update syllabi, lesson plans, and course materials that align with current trends and best practices in all aspects in fashion design.
- Deliver lectures, coordinate design studios, and supervise student projects.
- Provide constructive feedback and mentor students to enhance critical thinking, creativity, and design innovation while encouraging participation in academic and co-curricular activities.
- Foster an inclusive and collaborative learning environment that promotes student growth, leadership, and active participation in orientation, cultural events, fashion walks, convocation, and other institutional activities.
- Curriculum Development:
- Collaborate with faculty to refine and develop the fashion design curriculum, integrating fashion concepts and theories.
- Emphasize the relationship between fashion design,



including topics such as merchandizing, pattern making and textiles.
- Incorporate current technologies and digital tools, such as photoshop, illustration, coral drawing, PDD.
- Research and Professional Engagement:
- Conduct research or creative work in fashion design, contributing to the academic community.
- Participate in design competitions, publish research, and present findings at conferences.
- Keep up with industry trends, innovations, and sustainable design practices to inform teaching and practice.
- Department and University Service:
- Attend departmental meetings, participate in university committees, and assist with program development and accreditation processes.
- Actively contribute to student recruitment and outreach initiatives.
- Advise students on academic and career-related matters, providing mentorship and guidance.
- Qualifications
- Education:
- A Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) or Masters in Fashion Design (M.Des.) or PhD
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in fashion design practice.
- Prior teaching experience in fashion design, or related fields at the university level is desirable but not essential.
- Experience using design software such as PDD, photoshop, coral draw.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of fashion principles and their application to fashion design.
- Proficiency in contemporary design software and digital tools.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in a fast-paced academic environment.
