We are looking for a proactive and knowledgeable EHS Compliance Officer to ensure our operations are safe, sustainable, and compliant with all relevant regulations.
Job Summary/Purpose: The EHS Compliance Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all policies, procedures, and programs related to Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS). This hands-on role is crucial for ensuring the company's compliance with all applicable EHS laws and regulations, minimizing operational risks, and fostering a strong safety culture, with a specific focus on the hazards associated with ceramic and ink manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Compliance & Policy Management:
- Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies in accordance with regulations pertinent to the ceramic industry (e.g., The Factories Act, Environmental Protection Act, rules on hazardous dust and chemical management).
- Ensure compliance with EHS management systems such as ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Conduct regular legal reviews to keep policies current with evolving EHS and ceramic industry standards.
- Risk Assessment & Hazard Control (Ceramic & Ceramic Ink Specific):
- Lead the site's program for managing exposure to respirable crystalline silica, including air monitoring, engineering controls (e.g., ventilation,
wet methods), and administrative controls.
- Conduct risk assessments (HIRA) for all processes, with a focus on dust generation (crushing, grinding, spraying), chemical handling (inks, solvents), kiln operations, and high-noise equipment.
- Implement and oversee the chemical management program for ceramic inks, glazes, and raw materials, ensuring proper storage, handling, and use of materials containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
- Manage the site's hearing conservation program.
- Ensure robust safety protocols for kiln operations, including high-temperature work, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and confined space entry procedures.
- Incident Investigation & Reporting:
- Lead the investigation of all workplace accidents, incidents, and near-misses.
- Maintain all required EHS records and prepare reports for regulatory agencies and internal management, including any specific reporting for hazardous substance usage.
- Training & Safety Culture:
- Develop and conduct EHS training on topics including silica hazard awareness, respirator use and fit-testing, protected chemical handling, PPE, and emergency response for chemical spills and fires.
- Promote a proactive safety culture by engaging with employees on the specific risks of their roles.
- Environmental Management:
- Monitor and manage kiln emissions and air quality to ensure compliance with CPCB/GPCB norms and environmental permits.
- Oversee the management and disposal of all industrial waste streams, including hazardous waste such as waste inks, solvents, contaminated materials, and sludge from wastewater treatment.
- Drive initiatives to reduce waste, water usage, and energy consumption.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelors degree in environmental science, Occupational Health & Safety, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- A government-recognized diploma in Industrial Safety is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on EHS experience in a Frits/Grits/Compound, ink manufacturing environment is essential.
- Direct experience managing programs for silica dust control and hazardous chemical handling.
- In-depth knowledge of Indian EHS regulations and their application in a manufacturing setting.
- Proven experience with EHS management systems (ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
- Certifications like NEBOSH IGC or similar are a strong advantage.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of industrial hygiene principles, particularly concerning dust and chemical exposure.
- Excellent analytical skills with a methodical approach to problem-solving.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and influence others.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite for reporting and record-keeping.
- High ethical standards and a strong commitment to safety and compliance.
