Location: Mumbai, on-site
Department: Hardware Engineering / R&D; Support
Employment Type: Full-time
Experience: 37 years in electronics repair, rework, and testing
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Electronics Repair & Test Technician to diagnose, repair, and test electronic boards and devices at our Mumbai office. The role combines fine rework skills including SMD soldering with board-level troubleshooting and basic software skills for device programming, firmware flashing, and functional testing. You will support both production units returned for repair and R&D; prototypes, working closely with the hardware and embedded engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose faults on electronic PCBAs and finished devices down to component level using schematics, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and bench power supplies.
- Perform rework and repair of SMD components (0402/0603 passives, SOIC, QFP, QFN, connectors; BGA rework experience is a plus) using hot air stations, soldering irons, and preheaters to IPC-quality standards.
- Repair, refurbish, and retest field-returned units; document failure modes and repair actions in the service log / RMA system.
- Flash firmware and bootloaders onto devices using programming tools (e.g., JTAG/SWD debuggers, USB/serial flashing utilities, vendor tools).
- Run functional test procedures and basic test scripts; record and report test results.
- Assist the R&D; team with prototype assembly, board bring-up, cable/harness fabrication, and design-validation testing.
- Maintain lab equipment, ESD discipline, and an organized repair workstation; manage spare component inventory for repairs.
- Escalate recurring failure patterns to engineering with transparent observations and supporting evidence (photos, measurements, logs).
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Diploma or ITI in Electronics / Electronics & Telecommunication, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Proven experience in component-level troubleshooting and repair of electronic boards and devices.
- Strong SMD soldering and rework skills (hot air and iron); ability to work under a microscope on fine-pitch parts.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, PCB layouts, BOMs, and component datasheets.
- Competence with standard lab instruments: DMM, oscilloscope, bench supply, function generator.
- Basic software knowledge for programming and testing devices — e.g., flashing firmware, using serial terminals, running test utilities or simple scripts (Python or batch scripting is a plus).
- Familiarity with common interfaces: UART, USB, I2C, SPI, Ethernet.
- Good documentation habits and working English (written and spoken).
Nice to Have
- IPC-A-610 / IPC-7711/7721 certification or equivalent rework training.
- Experience with embedded Linux or Android-based devices.
- Experience supporting EMC/environmental testing or production line testing.
What We Offer
- Hands-on work across a diverse range of embedded hardware products.
- Direct collaboration with senior hardware and firmware engineers.
