Duty Doctor (Medical Officer)

Reporting To

Medical Superintendent / Chief Medical Officer (CMO)

Job Purpose To provide high-quality medical care to patients by assessing, diagnosing, treating, and monitoring their health conditions while ensuring adherence to hospital protocols and maintaining accurate medical records.

Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities

- Examine, diagnose, and manage patients presenting to the OPD, IPD, and Emergency Department.
- Provide prompt medical treatment and stabilize emergency and critical care patients.
- Perform initial patient assessment, prescribe medications, and formulate treatment plans.
- Monitor admitted patients and document progress notes regularly.
- Refer patients to specialists when required.
- Perform basic medical procedures within the scope of practice.
- Ensure timely response to all medical emergencies and code blue situations.

Patient Care
- Explain diagnosis, treatment options, and preventive measures to patients and their families.
- Ensure patient safety and maintain confidentiality of medical information.
- Follow evidence-based clinical guidelines and hospital protocols.

Documentation
- Maintain complete and accurate patient medical records.
- Prepare discharge summaries, death summaries, referral notes, and medical certificates as required.
- Complete medico-legal documentation whenever applicable.

Coordination
- Coordinate with consultants, nursing staff, laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy departments.
- Participate in multidisciplinary patient care meetings.
- Ensure smooth patient handover during shift changes.

Quality & Compliance
- Follow NABH standards,



infection prevention and control protocols, and biomedical waste management guidelines.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
- Report adverse events and medical incidents promptly.

Administrative Duties
- Ensure availability of emergency drugs and essential medical equipment during the shift.
- Supervise junior medical staff and interns where applicable.
- Attend departmental meetings, CMEs, and training programs.

Qualifications
- MBBS from a recognized medical college.
- Valid registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) / State Medical Council.
- BLS certification mandatory; ACLS certification preferred.

Experience
- Fresh MBBS graduates or 1–3 years of clinical experience in a hospital setting.
- Experience in emergency medicine, ICU, or critical care is an added advantage.

- Emergency and critical care management.
- Effective communication and patient counselling.
- Teamwork and leadership.
- Documentation and medical record management.
- Time management and ability to work under pressure.
- Knowledge of NABH standards and infection control practices.

Working Conditions
- Rotational shifts including day, night, weekends, and public holidays.
- On-call duties as per hospital policy.

- Quality of patient care.

- Accuracy and completeness of clinical documentation.
- Patient satisfaction.
- Compliance with hospital protocols and NABH standards.
- Attendance, punctuality, and qualified conduct.
