A Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing, monitoring, and controlling a company’s costs to improve profitability and efficiency. They collect and interpret cost data, prepare reports, and support management in budgeting and decision-making processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze production costs, materials, labor, and overhead expenses.
- Prepare cost reports and present findings to management.
- Develop and maintain standard costing systems.
- Monitor inventory valuation and conduct cost audits.
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend improvements.
- Reconcile cost accounts with the general ledger.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
- Support pricing decisions and profitability analysis.
- Participate in month-end and year-end closing processes.
Requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Professional certification (e.g., CMA, CPA) preferred.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Excel.
- Knowledge of cost accounting principles and methods.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
Experience Requirements:
- Typically 2–5 years of experience in cost accounting or a similar role
- Experience in manufacturing or production environments is often preferred
