Designation: Junior Consultant or Senior Registrar, Nephrology

Qualification (specify experience): DNB or DM in Nephrology with an experience of between 2 and 5

years post qualification for junior consultant and of less than 2 years post qualification for senior registrar preferably in an academic institution

Registration with Karnataka Medical Council

Knowledge: Updates on current international practices and guidelines in Nephrology

Skills: Procedures related to Nephrology and General Medicine

Teaching post graduates

Communication with patients and Hospital staff at other levels

Reporting to: Head, Department of Nephrology; Medical Director; Unit Head

Reported by: Registrars in Nephrology, duty doctors, dialysis medical officer, physician assistants,

Dialysis staff, Nephrology nurse; indirect reporting by Nursing Staff, public relationship manager,

Housekeeping Staff

Key result areas: Implementation of hospital protocols and policies in general and with respect to

Nephrology practice in particular

Compliance with patient care related safety policies, patient rights related policies and NABH guidelines

Adherence to code of medical ethics

General Responsibilities Effective implementation of the goals and objectives of the institution towards achieving safe and excellent patient care in the hospital





Management of all patients with care and compassion in compliance with the polices of the Hospital and Medical Ethics

Accurate, legible and detailed documentation of patient ailments, discussions and advice in all the necessary records

Accurate, legible and detailed documentation of procedures done for the patient (including informed consent forms) and follow up of the same

Effective communication and co ordination on patient care and positive healthcare delivery as and when required with colleagues within the department and in other medical specialties and paramedical departments

Learning formulation of new policies and protocols

Implementation of quality related processes within the department

Dissemination of knowledge and information on renal diseases and their management

Other Committee meets where applicable (Hospital Infection Control Committee, Safety Committee and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Committee)

Specific Responsibilities Research initiatives in the field of Nephrology

Participation Academic and review meets of the department

Morbidity and Mortality meets

Committee meets where applicable (as above)

Clinical audit meets

Scientific Advisory Committee meets

Academic forums and meets (including regional, national and international conferences) as and when
