Construction Accountant - US Accounting

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Construction Accountant with hands-on experience in US construction accounting and project-based financial operations. The ideal candidate should have expertise in job costing, project accounting, Work-in-Progress (WIP), construction billing, subcontractor accounting, retainage, project reconciliations, and month-end financial reporting, while ensuring compliance with US GAAP and company policies.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage end-to-end accounting activities for construction projects and US-based clients/entities.
- Maintain project-wise accounting records, budgets, and financial transactions.
- Perform Job Costing and allocate labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs accurately.
- Monitor project budgets, actual costs, and profitability.
- Prepare and process Construction Billing, including progress billing, milestone billing, time & material billing, and retainage accounting.
- Support AIA Billing and payment application processes where applicable.
- Maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and perform WIP reconciliations.
- Process subcontractor invoices and maintain subcontractor payment records.
- Record journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and project-related accounting transactions.
- Reconcile project accounts, subcontractor balances, and the General Ledger.
- Support month-end and year-end financial close activities.
- Prepare project financial reports, cost variance analysis, and profitability reports.
- Coordinate with project managers, estimators, operations, and finance teams to monitor project financial performance.
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP,



internal controls, contractual terms, and company policies.
- Maintain supporting documentation and assist with internal and external audits.
- Identify opportunities to improve construction accounting processes and reporting efficiency.

Key Software Hands-on experience with one or more of the following is preferred:

- QuickBooks
- Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate
- Sage Intacct
- Foundation Software
- Procore
- Viewpoint Vista
- CMiC
- NetSuite
- Microsoft Dynamics 365

Experience with other construction accounting or ERP systems will also be considered. Accounting & Compliance Knowledge

Qualifications & Skills

- Master's degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Chartered Accountants or candidates pursuing/progressing toward CA will be preferred.
- 38 years of experience in Construction Accounting, Project Accounting, US Accounting, or Finance Operations.
- Experience supporting US construction companies or US-based clients preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, job costing, WIP, retainage, and project financial reporting.
- Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Robust proficiency in Microsoft Excel / Google Sheets.
