Job Summary The Chess Coach will be responsible for training students of varying age groups and skill levels in chess, developing structured coaching programmes, and preparing talented players for school, district, state, and national-level tournaments. The role requires a strong grasp of chess theory, tournament strategy, and the ability to nurture analytical thinking, discipline, and sportsmanship among students.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver chess training sessions for beginner, intermediate, and advanced learners.

Design a progressive curriculum covering openings, middle-game strategy, endgames, and tactical patterns.

Identify and mentor talented students for competitive play, including individualized coaching plans.

Organize and supervise participation in inter-school, district, state, and national chess tournaments.

Conduct regular practice matches, puzzle-solving sessions, and post-game analysis with students.

Maintain student performance records, track progress, and provide periodic feedback to parents and academy management.

Instill discipline, sportsmanship, and strategic thinking through structured coaching methods.

Organize chess camps, workshops, and simultaneous exhibition events to promote the game within the academy.

Stay updated with FIDE rules, rating systems, and evolving competitive formats.

Coordinate with academy administration for scheduling, resource allocation, and event logistics.

Qualifications & Experience





Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related field (preferred).

FIDE rating or a recognized chess coaching certification is highly desirable.

Minimum 2–3 years of experience coaching chess at a school, academy, or club level.

Demonstrated record of guiding students to tournament success is an added advantage.

Skills & Competencies

Strong command over chess openings, strategy, and endgame theory.

Excellent communication and mentoring skills suited to young learners.

Patience, discipline, and the ability to motivate students of varying skill levels.

Sound understanding of tournament formats, time controls, and FIDE regulations.

Basic proficiency with chess software and databases (e.g., ChessBase, Lichess study tools) preferred.

Strong organizational skills for managing sessions, camps, and tournament logistics.

Working Conditions

Work is conducted primarily on the academy campus, with occasional travel for tournaments and events.

May require flexibility in working hours to accommodate practice sessions and competition schedules.
