Role & responsibilities
- Safe and Responsible Driving: Operate heavy motor vehicles, buses, and other assigned transport vehicles safely and responsibly, ensuring compliance with all applicable traffic laws and institutional safety guidelines.
- Transportation of Students and Staff: Safely transport students, faculty members, administrative staff, visitors, and other authorized personnel to and from designated locations as per the assigned schedule.
- Official Transportation Duties: Drive the vehicle for official university/institutional requirements, including transportation for meetings, events, examinations, educational visits, official assignments, and other authorized activities.
- Vehicle Inspection: Conduct routine checks of the vehicle before and after each trip, including brakes, tyres, lights, engine oil, coolant, fuel level, battery, horn, mirrors, and other essential components.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure the assigned vehicle is maintained in good working condition and report any mechanical issues, unusual sounds, damage, or maintenance requirements to the concerned authority immediately.
- Documentation & Records: Maintain accurate records of daily trips, vehicle usage, fuel consumption, mileage, maintenance, repairs, and other relevant vehicle-related information as required by the institution.
- Adherence to Traffic Rules: Strictly follow traffic rules, speed limits, road safety regulations, and other applicable transportation laws while operating the vehicle.
- Passenger Safety: Ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers throughout the journey. Exercise additional caution while transporting students and during crowded or high-traffic situations.
- Timely Reporting: Report to the designated location on time and ensure that the vehicle is ready and available as per the assigned transportation schedule.
- Route Planning: Follow designated routes and, where required, identify suitable and safe routes considering traffic conditions, road restrictions, weather, and other relevant factors.
- Emergency Handling: Demonstrate the ability to handle unexpected situations such as vehicle breakdowns, traffic incidents, road emergencies, or other unforeseen circumstances calmly and responsibly.
- Vehicle Cleanliness:
Ensure that the assigned vehicle remains clean, hygienic, and presentable at all times, both internally and externally.
- Fuel Management: Monitor fuel levels and ensure timely refuelling of the vehicle to avoid interruptions in scheduled transportation.
- Coordination with Administration: Coordinate with the transport department, administrative staff, security personnel, faculty members, and other concerned officials regarding transportation schedules and requirements.
- Compliance with Institutional Policies: Follow all rules, regulations, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and safety protocols prescribed by the University/Institution.
- Support During Institutional Events: Provide transportation support during university functions, seminars, conferences, examinations, admission activities, official visits, field trips, and other institutional events whenever assigned.
- Basic Vehicle Maintenance: Possess basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and be able to identify common mechanical problems and carry out minor checks or basic troubleshooting when required.
- Confidentiality & Professional Conduct: Maintain skilled behaviour while interacting with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and officials and handle any official information or documents entrusted to them responsibly.
- Reporting of Incidents: Immediately report accidents, traffic violations, vehicle damage, breakdowns, or any other significant incidents to the concerned authority.
- Other Assigned Duties: Perform other transportation-related duties and responsibilities assigned by the competent authority from time to time.
Preferred candidate profile
- Candidates should have passed Standard 10 (SSC) or equivalent from a recognized Board.
- Must possess a valid Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV)/Transport Vehicle Driving Licence issued by the competent authority.
- Candidates with at least 1 year of relevant experience in driving Heavy Motor Vehicles/Buses after obtaining the required HMV/Transport Vehicle licence will be preferred.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working as a driver in an Educational Institution, University, Government Organization, or other reputed institutional setup.
- Candidates should have a clean and responsible driving record with a strong understanding of road safety practices and traffic regulations.
- Should have basic knowledge of motor vehicle maintenance, including routine checks and identification of common mechanical issues.
- Candidates must have adequate knowledge of Gujarati or Hindi to communicate effectively with students, staff, officials, and other passengers.
- Should be physically capable of performing regular driving duties and handling the responsibilities associated with operating a heavy vehicle.
- Must demonstrate punctuality, reliability, discipline, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Should have a safety-first approach and be committed to ensuring the safety of passengers and the vehicle.
- Candidates with prior experience transporting students, faculty, employees, or institutional personnel will be preferred.
- Experience in handling long-distance travel, official transportation, field visits, educational tours, or institutional events would be an added advantage.
- Should possess good communication and interpersonal skills and maintain courteous behaviour with passengers and colleagues.
- Candidates should be comfortable working according to institutional schedules, including occasional early morning, late evening, weekend, or event-related transportation requirements, as per operational needs.
- Must be willing to follow instructions from the authorized supervisor and comply with all institutional policies and procedures.
- Candidates who demonstrate professional appearance, safe driving habits, vehicle-care awareness, and dependable work ethics will be preferred.
- Prior experience in a University/College/School or Government establishment will be considered a strong advantage.
