Assistant Professor: Textile Science, Surface Design & Fashion Heritage
Position Summary The Assistant Professor shall be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in fashion design foundations, fashion illustration, design methodology, design projects, and fashion history. The faculty member will foster creativity, critical thinking, visual communication, and historical understanding while mentoring students in developing strong design concepts, artistic expression, and professional competencies aligned with contemporary fashion industry practices.

Qualifications
Masters Degree in Textile Design, Fashion Design, Textile Science, Apparel Merchandising,
Fashion Technology, or a closely related discipline with at least 55% marks (or equivalent grade) from a recognized university.
NET/SLET/SET qualification or Ph.D. as per current UGC regulations (where applicable).
Industry or academic experience in textiles, surface design, merchandising, or fashion heritage is desirable.
Experience working with artisan communities, textile clusters, retail organizations, or fashion brands will be an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver theory and practical courses in textile science, fibre technology, fabric construction, dyeing,
printing, embroidery, and surface embellishment.
Teach historical development of fashion, costume traditions, cultural influences, and heritage textiles.
Guide students in textile identification, performance evaluation, and appropriate material selection for fashion products.
Conduct practical demonstrations in traditional and contemporary surface ornamentation techniques.
Deliver instruction in apparel merchandising, sourcing, retail operations, product lifecycle, and fashion supply chain management. Integrate design thinking methodologies and emerging technologies, including AI-assisted design tools where appropriate.
Supervise textile laboratories and surface design studios.
Demonstrate techniques such as embroidery, block printing, screen printing, resist dyeing, fabric painting, appliqué, quilting, and mixed-media embellishment.
Maintain laboratory equipment, textile samples, dyeing tools, printing screens, and teaching collections.
Ensure safe laboratory practices and proper use of materials and equipment. Mentor students in creative development, portfolio preparation, and design competitions.
Conduct research in fashion design, design education, fashion history, visual culture, and related fields.
Organize workshops, seminars, exhibitions, design competitions, and guest lectures.
Engage in consultancy, cooperative projects, and industry-academia partnerships.
Design and evaluate theory examinations, studio assignments, design projects, portfolios, and presentations.
Conduct continuous internal assessments in accordance with institutional policies.
Maintain accurate academic records and provide constructive feedback to students.
