Role Description The Assignment Desk Professional will coordinate news coverage by tracking breaking stories, planning daily and long-term assignments, and ensuring timely deployment of reporting and camera teams. This is a full-time, in office role based in New Delhi.
Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring multiple news sources, verifying information, prioritizing stories, and maintaining a real-time news diary. The role involves liaising with reporters, editors, and bureau teams, giving clear briefs, and following up to ensure high-quality, accurate content delivery.
The Assignment Desk
Professional will also support logistics, maintain communication workflows,
and contribute to editorial planning for multi-platform news output.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in a newsroom or media environment, preferably on an assignment desk or in news coordination.
- Strong news judgment with the ability to identify, evaluate, and prioritize stories across politics, business, sports, entertainment, and social issues.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills to work effectively with reporters, editors, and technical teams.
- Ability to work under time pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and respond quickly to breaking news and changing priorities.
- Proficiency with newsroom software, content management systems, and common digital tools for monitoring wires, social media, and other news feeds.
- Solid organizational and documentation skills to maintain assignment logs, schedules, and coverage plans.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written); knowledge of additional regional languages is an advantage.
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by news cycles.
