Job Summary The In-Charge Nurse is responsible for supervising and coordinating all nursing activities within the assigned unit, ensuring high-quality patient care, efficient utilization of resources, compliance with hospital policies, NABH/JCI standards, infection control practices, and maintaining patient safety. The role includes leadership, staff supervision, patient care coordination, and administrative responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Care Management

- Ensure delivery of safe, effective, and evidence-based nursing care.
- Assess patient care requirements and prioritize nursing interventions.
- Monitor patients' clinical condition and ensure timely escalation to doctors.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary patient care.
- Ensure continuity of care during shift handovers.
- Handle medical emergencies efficiently.

2. Unit Management

- Supervise daily functioning of the assigned nursing unit.
- Allocate duties based on patient acuity and staff competency.
- Ensure adequate staffing throughout each shift.
- Monitor bed occupancy and patient movement.
- Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges.

3. Staff Supervision

- Supervise Staff Nurses, Nursing Assistants, and support staff.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, and discipline.
- Conduct shift briefings.
- Guide newly joined nurses.
- Evaluate staff performance.
- Identify training needs.

4. Clinical Responsibilities

- Ensure accurate medication administration.
- Monitor IV therapy and blood transfusions.
- Ensure proper documentation.
- Supervise nursing procedures.
- Verify doctors' orders.
- Ensure patient monitoring protocols are followed.

5. Infection Prevention & Control

- Ensure adherence to infection control policies.
- Monitor hand hygiene compliance.
- Ensure Biomedical Waste segregation.
- Conduct infection control audits.
- Report hospital-acquired infections as per protocol.

6. Patient Safety





- Ensure implementation of patient safety goals.
- Prevent falls, medication errors, and pressure injuries.
- Verify patient identification before procedures.
- Report and investigate incidents.
- Maintain emergency preparedness.

7. Documentation

- Review nursing documentation.
- Ensure complete patient records.
- Verify consent forms.
- Maintain departmental registers.
- Ensure legal documentation compliance.

8. Equipment & Inventory Management

- Ensure equipment functionality.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance.
- Monitor emergency trolley readiness.
- Maintain adequate stock of medicines and consumables.
- Prevent wastage.

9. Quality & Accreditation

- Ensure compliance with NABH/JCI standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Monitor nursing quality indicators.
- Participate in internal audits.
- Implement corrective actions.

10. Patient Experience

- Address patient and family concerns.
- Ensure compassionate nursing care.
- Promote patient education.
- Improve patient satisfaction.

11. Training & Education

- Conduct in-service education.
- Organize skill development sessions.
- Orient recent employees.
- Encourage continuous learning.

12. Administrative Responsibilities

- Prepare monthly duty rosters.
- Maintain leave records.
- Coordinate manpower requirements.
- Submit departmental reports.
- Participate in departmental meetings.

Daily Responsibilities

- Conduct shift handover.
- Check staffing adequacy.
- Visit all patients.
- Review critical patients.
- Ensure medication administration.
- Verify crash cart readiness.
- Check emergency equipment.
- Monitor documentation.
- Coordinate with doctors and allied departments.
- Resolve operational issues.

Required Qualifications

- B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing
- M.Sc. Nursing (Preferred)
- Valid State Nursing Council Registration

Experience

- 58 years of clinical nursing experience.
- Minimum 2 years in a supervisory role is preferred.
