Role & responsibilities To ensure smooth functioning & providing quality nursing care to the patients in the ICU.

Patient Care
- Assess and monitor patients in the ICU.
- Monitor and record symptoms and changes in patients conditions and inform to physician.
- interpret and evaluate diagnostics tests to identify and assess patients condition.
- Communicates critical values to doctor promptly and manages patient accordingly.
- Prioritize nursing care for assigned critically ill patients based on assessment data and identified needs.
- Should have enough knowledge about GCS (Glasgow Coma Scale) and also evaluation capacity of patient condition.
- Monitor patients fluid intake and output to detect emerging problems such as fluid and electrolyte imbalances.
- Identify patients who are at risk of complications due to nutritional status.
- Assess patients pain score and sedation requirements.
- Ability to monitor and manage critically ill patients.
- Monitor the critical patients for changes in status and indications of conditions such as sepsis or shock and institute appropriate interventions.
- Ability to manage patients requiring ventilatory or non-invasive ventilatory support.
- Able to manage patients with endotracheal or tracheostomy tube.
- Performs effective suctioning for patients with endotracheal or tracheostomy tube.
- Ability to manage patients on complex procedures or therapies.
- Critical care nurses may also care for patients requiring ICU before and after surgery / procedure.
- Ability to monitor and manage patients with invasive lines like drains, central lines, arterial lines, etc.
- Able to draw ABG Blood
- Ability to monitor and identify normal and abnormal ECG rhythms.
- Assist physicians with procedures such as endotracheal intubation, lines / drains insertions, bronchoscopy, and elective cardioversion.
- Responding to life-saving situations, using nursing standards and BLS and ACLS protocols for treatment.
- Ensures safe medication administration to patients with accurate drug calculations.
- Monitors and follows Infection control bundles to prevent VAP, CAUTI and CLABSI.
- Assess and follows preventive measures to prevent pressure sores in bed-ridden patients
- Manages alarms and ensures clinical alarm safety for patients.
- Ensuring protected patient transport (both critical and non-critical patients) to other departments from ICU for investigations.
- Ability to manage terminally ill patients or patients receiving end of life care.
- Ability to handle, calm, emotional sad depressed anxious patients & their relatives.
- Ability to calm and handle relatives after death.
Skill Test: Nursing Skills
- Ability to handle all equipments in the ICU.
- Ensure that equipments or devices are properly stored after use.
- Knowledgeable on various drugs used in ICU like inotropes, sedatives, vasodilators, emergency drugs, etc.
- Must be aware about the ICU admission, discharge and transfer criteria.
Required Education: Diploma Nursing/B.Sc. Nursing (Valid State Registration is mandatory, preferred Haryana Registration)
