Visilant is a commercial-stage digital health company founded out of the Johns Hopkins University focused on creating and deploying accessible, AI-powered eye screening technologies to eliminate avoidable blindness. More than 1 billion people live with treatable eye diseases, yet care remains out of reach due to a shortage of eye specialists, long travel distances, and high costs, especially for rural and low-income patients.

The Role
Visilant is seeking a Lead Mobile Engineer to own the architecture and development of our flagship mobile application built with Expo/React Native.
You will be responsible for building, shipping, and evolving the mobile experience used by community health workers and clinicians to perform AI-assisted eye screening in real-world healthcare environments. This includes writing production-quality code, designing current features, improving application reliability and performance, and making key architectural decisions that shape the future of the platform.You will serve as the technical owner of Visilant's mobile platform,



defining its architecture, establishing engineering best practices, and guiding the evolution of our mobile technology stack.

This role combines hands-on software development with technical ownership. You will work directly with product, clinical, and engineering teams to translate user needs into technical solutions, from defining implementation approaches and evaluating tradeoffs to coding, testing, deploying, and monitoring features in production.

Key Responsibilities

Mobile Application Development & Technical Ownership
Design, build, test, and maintain Visilant's React Native/Expo mobile application.
Write clean, maintainable code and establish scalable patterns for future development.
Debug and resolve complex issues across devices, operating systems, connectivity environments, and hardware configurations.
Own mobile release processes, version management, and deployment workflows.
