Role Overview

Head Designs will lead the mechanical design, development, realization and qualification of advanced mechanical systems and components for aerospace and defence applications supporting strategic clients such as Indian Defence Forces, DRDO, DRDL, RCI, BEL, ECIL, and BHEL.

This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, ability to drive innovation from concept to production and deliver mission-critical, high-reliability defense products in compliance with stringent quality, safety, and performance standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Defense Project Design Leadership

- Support business development and proposal creation
- Lead design and development of mechanical systems for defense programs
- Work closely with internal development teams, end customers (DRDO Labs, PSUs Ministry of Defence etc.) and Supply Chain partners
- Interpret client requirements and technical specifications
- Participate in PDR, CDR, and design reviews
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables
- Define and execute the Mechanical R&D; roadmap aligned with organizational goals.
- Identify emerging technologies (lightweight structures, thermal systems, advanced materials, etc.), drive innovation and IP Creation (Patents/ Proprietary designs)

2. Mechanical Design & Engineering

- Oversee design lifecycle from Concept to material selection to Design to Analysis to Prototyping to Testing to Qualification to Production documentation
- Lead end-to-end development of Aerospace structures and assemblies, Rugged Defence mechanical systems (Enclosures, mounts etc.)
- Ensure compliance with standards such as AS9100, JSS55555, MIL, DO-160 etc.

3. Engineering Management





- Lead and mentor high performance multidisciplinary Engineering teams (design, analysis, prototyping, testing, manufacturing support)
- Manage resources and schedules
- Drive performance and training initiatives
- Establish best practices in CAD/CAE workflows, GD&T;, Design for Manufacturability (DFM) & Assembly (DFA)
- Drive Make in India initiatives
- Optimize cost and performance

4. CAD Management, 3D Modelling and Analysis

- Lead CAD using Creo / CATIA / SolidWorks / NX
- Oversee AutoCAD drafting
- Guide Design Calculations
- Ensure GD&T; compliance
- Guide advanced Engineering analysis/ simulation viz., structural (FEA), thermal, fatigue and reliability analysis etc.

5. Product Realization

- Convert designs into production-ready products
- Coordinate with purchase, manufacturing and vendors

6. Testing & Qualification

- Oversee test/ validation plans preperation
- Oversee qualification activities
- Conduct root cause analysis

7. Manufacturing & Industrialization Support

- Oversee design transition from R&D; to production
- Collaborate with manufacturing and QA teams on Tooling and Process development

8. Key Skills

- In-depth Aero space/ Defense mechanical design and manufacturing expertise
- Leadership skills
- Proficiency in Solidworks, AutoCAD and/ or other CAD tools
- Knowledge of ANSYS CAE
- Robust background in Structural design, Thermal management and precision mechanisms
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (CNC, Sheet metal, Additive, Composites etc.)
- Knowledge of special steels/ alloys, composites, Plastics
- GD&T; knowledge

Educational Qualification

- B.E./B.Tech Mechanical (Mandatory)
- M.Tech (Preferred)

Experience

15+ years’ experience with 5+ years in leadership role Defense/ Aerospace project exposure (Mandatory)
