Master Section Creation: Develop and maintain master sections to define packaging space, interfaces, and clearance with interior trim, airbags, and glass.
Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Conduct formability and tooling feasibility reviews for sheet metal stamping, deep drawing, and joining technologies (spot welding, structural adhesives, laser brazing).
Safety & Compliance: Optimize designs to meet global crash and safety requirements, including roof crush (FMVSS 216), side impact, and upper interior head impact.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interface with the Styling studio to resolve geometric conflicts and work with CAE teams to implement structural reinforcement modifications.
GD&T; & Tolerancing: Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T;) principles and perform tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure proper vehicle assembly.

The upper body controls vehicle rigidity, crash management, and interior packaging. Experts must master these individual sub-assemblies:
A-Pillar: Manages front-offset crashes and roof crush. It must balance high structural strength with a slim profile to minimize the driver's blind spot (obstruction angle).
