Role Overview The Supply Chain Manager (Personal Care) will own the end-to-end operational execution of the manufacturing value chain—moving seamlessly from New Product Development (NPD) implementation to sustained market availability.
This role is responsible for ensuring that Raw Materials (RM), Packaging Materials (PM), and Finished Goods (FG) are delivered On-Time In-Full (OTIF) while strictly managing the Cost of Conversion (COC)
, inventory health, AQL & defect free products and Third-Party (3P) manufacturing performance or new products as well as existing products.
- Reports To: Operations Head - Demand & Fulfillment
- Key Stakeholders: NPD, Planning, Procurement, Quality, and 3P Manufacturers
- Category Focus: Personal Care (Face wash, Body wash, Creams, Gels, etc.)
Core Responsibilities 1. NPD Commercialization & Launch Execution
- Partner closely with the NPD team to transition formulations and packaging concepts from lab-scale to commercial 3P manufacturing lines.
- Own the supply chain readiness timeline for all new launches, ensuring RM/PM pipelines are primed to meet first-production deadlines without market entry delays.
- Closure of costing – P2P / COC to deliver desired margins .
- Coordinate trial runs at 3P sites with Quality and Production teams to establish baseline production standards.
2. End-to-End Availability (OTIF) & Materials Management
- Ensure 100% availability of RM, PM, and FG across the network to satisfy fluctuating demand signals.
- Collaborate with the Central Planning team to convert demand forecasts into actionable production and material requirement schedules.
- Proactively identify supply bottlenecks (e.g., long-lead active ingredients, custom packaging laminates) and implement mitigation strategies.
3. Cost Control & Conversion Frameworks (COC)
- Manage and optimize the Cost of Conversion (COC) across all manufacturing locations, tracking the precise mix of variable costs, fixed overheads, wastages and co-packer margins.
- Identify and execute cost-saving initiatives within the value chain (e.g., freight optimization, batch size scaling, throughput improvements).
- Negotiate service levels and operational cost structures with 3P partners alongside the Procurement team.
4. 3P Manufacturing & Project Management
- Oversee day-to-day operations at Third-Party (3P) contract manufacturing sites, holding them accountable to agreed capacities and timelines.
- Lead operational excellence and capacity expansion projects at 3P/Own locations to support brand scaling.
- Monitor compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines at external facilities.
5. Inventory & Value Chain Health
- Optimize inventory levels across the network (RM, PM, and FG) to maximize working capital efficiency while preventing stockouts.
- Minimize aging and slow-moving stock by setting up robust tracking systems for material shelf-life and expiration dates (critical for active personal care ingredients).
- Develop and maintain clear, structured inventory frameworks (such as standardized bin systems and location identifiers) at storage sites to ensure flawless traceability.
Profile Requirements:
- Experience: 6–10 years of robust supply chain, operations, or category management experience within the FMCG / Personal Care / Cosmetics sector.
- Technical Domain Knowledge: Deep familiarity with personal care manufacturing processes (emulsions, hot/cold compounding, high-speed filling lines for tubes/bottles/jars) and primary packaging barrier properties.
- Competencies: Solid project management, analytical problem-solving, and a clear understanding of manufacturing cost structures (Variable/Fixed/Margins).
- Interpersonal Skills: A collaborative, direct communicator capable of alignment across cross-functional units (NPD, Quality, Procurement) and external vendors.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
The performance of the Supply Chain Manager will be evaluated against the following distinct metrics:
1. Service & Availability Metrics
- FG OTIF (On-Time In-Full): $ge 98%$ adherence to the distribution plan for finished goods.
- RM/PM Readiness for NPD: 100% on-time availability of first-production components against the agreed-upon NPD launch calendar.
2. Cost & Efficiency Metrics
- COC Variance vs. Budget: Variance in the actual Cost of Conversion (Sum of Fixed Costs + Variable Costs + Contracted Margins) against the annualized target baseline.
- Value Chain Cost Savings: Total financial impact delivered via supply chain optimization projects (e.g., logistics route restructuring, 3P efficiency gains).
3. Inventory Health Metrics
- Inventory Days Forward Cover: Maintaining inventory levels within the targeted window (e.g., 30–45 days) for FG and RM/PM without triggering stockouts.
- SLOB (Slow-Moving & Obsolete) Reduction: Keeping expired, near-expiry, or discontinued RM/PM/FG write-offs below a defined threshold (e.g., less than 1% of total inventory value annually).
4. Vendor & Quality Performance
- 3P Capacity Utilization & Adherence: $ge 95%$ adherence to the weekly/monthly production plan by third-party manufacturers.
- Right-First-Time (RFT) Rate: Collaboration with Quality to maintain a high RFT rate at production sites, minimizing batch rejections or re-work cycles.
5 . MIS - Daily /Monthly to stakeholders Technical & Software Proficiencies
- ERP & Systems: Advanced operational command of SAP (MM/PP modules) or similar tier-1 Enterprise Resource Planning systems for material tracking, BOM (Bill of Materials) management, and production scheduling.
- Analytics & Data Processing: High proficiency in advanced data analytics using Excel / Google Sheets (complex modeling, pivot tables, data visualization) or dedicated BI tools to track cost variances and inventory days.
- Project & Supply Chain Management: Experience utilizing project tracking software (e.g., Jira, Asana, MS Project) to manage cross-functional NPD launch timelines across internal teams and external 3P sites.
