On August 1, 2026, OpenAI confirmed the name of its next major model family: Astra. The announcement came packaged with a genuinely striking claim — that an internal version of the model had produced new proofs for ten math and computer science problems that had sat unsolved for at least a decade, in some cases for nearly three.
