Position Description

Department: Fire and EMS Position

Title: Emergency Medical Technician

Reports to: EMS Officers

General Description and Duties of the Position (The following duties are normal for this position; however, they are not to be construed as allinclusive and other duties and tasks may be required and assigned.

Responds to emergency calls, protects life and property, and maintains equipment and apparatus of the Fire & EMS Department. Works under direct supervision and in accordance with department policies, practices, procedures, rules and regulations. Work is reviewed through periodic performance reports, observation of results achieved and one-on-one conferences.

Receives alarms and monitors radio messages responding to emergency calls.
Administers first aid and artificial respiration and where necessary performs and administers Basic Life Support to persons in danger from fire, drowning, accident, etc. and assists in medical emergencies.
Communicates with supervisor during emergency,



using portable two-way radio; relays instructions, orders and information.
Performs general maintenance work relative to fire department apparatus, quarters, buildings, equipment, and grounds.
Participates in training drills, demonstrations, and courses of emergency medical techniques.
Operate department vehicles to the scene of the emergency, observing state emergency vehicle laws, and operate emergency equipment safely.
Assist in after operations vehicle and equipment maintenance.
Performs other related duties as necessary.

Considerable knowledge of emergency medical services methods, techniques, and practices.
Considerable knowledge of equipment/apparatus used in emergency services.
Considerable knowledge of regulations, ordinances, and laws regarding an emergency services department.
