Position Title: Senior QA Automation Engineer The Area: The Area: The Morningstar Indexes Team leverages its expertise in equity research, manager research, asset allocation, and portfolio construction to create innovative investment solutions. It uses Morningstars intellectual property to create indexes that empower investors to achieve their goals at every stage of the investment processmarket monitoring, benchmarking, and asset allocation. The unit offers a broad suite of global equity, bond, commodity and asset allocation indexes.
The Role: In this role, you will work as a Senior QA Automation Engineer, collaborate with technology and business team to build technology solutions for Morningstar`s Indexes applications. You should have understanding of test automation frameworks and tools. You should automate existing applications, study their enterprise complexities and develop/implement better systems with modern testing automation practices.
Responsibilities
- Lead QA activities within the squad and ensure high-quality deliverables across the software development lifecycle.
- Define, implement, and continuously improve the test automation strategy, framework, and best practices.
- Gain deep understanding of the Indexes applications and design scalable automation solutions across UI, API, and database layers.
- Analyze business and functional requirements, design comprehensive test scenarios, and develop robust automated test cases.
- Own the end-to-end QA activities for assigned features and provide technical guidance to developers and QA team members.
- Contribute as a hands-on individual contributor by developing, reviewing, and maintaining automation scripts.
- Lead testing efforts for application enhancements, production support, and TechOps initiatives in collaboration with technology and business teams.
- Drive test planning, execution, defect management, and release readiness activities.
- Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify risks, improve testability, and ensure timely delivery.
- Track, report, and communicate testing progress, quality metrics, risks, and release status to stakeholders.
- Perform root cause analysis for production defects and contribute to continuous quality improvements.
- Mentor junior QA engineers and promote automation and quality engineering best practices across the team.
Experience
- 5–8 years of experience in QA Automation.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Technical Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with Selenium, REST Assured, and modern test automation frameworks.
- Proficiency in Java and basic working knowledge of Python.
- Good knowledge of SQL for writing and validating database queries. .
- Experience designing, developing, and maintaining large-scale automation frameworks covering UI, API, integration, and database testing.
- Strong understanding of automation design patterns including Page Object Model, data-driven, keyword-driven, BDD, and hybrid frameworks.
- Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
- Experience with source control systems such as GitHub and configuration management practices.
- Solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles and software design concepts.
- Experience testing distributed systems, microservices, and REST APIs.
- Proven ability to build reusable automation libraries and utilities rather than relying on record-and-playback tools.
- Familiarity with cloud-based testing environments and modern testing practices.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Playwright or Cypress.
- Exposure to Capital Markets, Equity, or Indexes domain.
- Experience with containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes).
- Working knowledge of performance or security testing tools.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, or Google Gemini to improve automation productivity and code quality.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to lead testing initiatives independently within a cross-functional Agile team.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and conducting code reviews.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced delivery environment.
- Good understanding of Agile methodologies and experience working in Scrum teams.
