Job Summary The Senior Knitwear Designer is responsible for creating innovative, trend-driven, and commercially successful knitwear collections for the brand. The role oversees the complete design lifecyclefrom concept development to production—ensuring that every collection aligns with the brand's identity, customer preferences, quality standards, and business objectives.
The ideal candidate should possess strong creative and technical expertise in knitwear design, fabric development, garment construction, print and graphic applications, and trend forecasting. This role requires close collaboration with merchandising, sourcing, production, and quality teams to ensure timely execution of seasonal collections.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Collection Development
- Conceptualize and develop seasonal knitwear collections based on global fashion trends, market insights, and customer preferences.
- Create innovative, trend-driven, and commercially viable designs for kids' knitwear.
- Develop mood boards, color palettes, themes, silhouettes, and garment concepts.
- Prepare detailed design specifications, technical sketches, and artwork for product development.
- Ensure collections reflect the brand's positioning and seasonal business strategy.
Product Development
- Manage the complete product development process from concept to final production.
- Work closely with merchandising, sourcing, and production teams to develop samples and prototypes.
- Review fit samples, size sets, and pre-production samples to ensure design accuracy and quality.
- Approve colors, trims, prints, graphics, embroidery, and fabric developments.
Trend Research & Innovation
- Conduct regular market research and trend forecasting.
- Analyze competitor products, fashion trends, fabrics, colors, and consumer preferences.
- Introduce cutting-edge design ideas, knit structures, washes, and embellishment techniques.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Coordinate with merchandising, production, quality assurance, and buying teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Provide technical guidance during sample development and production.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to ensure product feasibility and timely delivery.
Quality & Brand Standards
- Ensure all products meet brand quality standards and fit requirements.
- Maintain consistency in design aesthetics, workmanship, and product finishing.
- Monitor product quality from development through production.
Team Leadership
- Mentor and guide junior designers and design assistants.
- Allocate design projects and monitor team performance.
- Encourage creativity, innovation, and continuous learning within the design team.
Planning & Documentation
- Maintain accurate design documentation, tech packs, and development records.
- Ensure timely completion of collections according to seasonal calendars.
- Support costing discussions by recommending commercially viable design options.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design, Knitwear Design,
Textile Design, or a related discipline.
- 6–10 years of experience in knitwear design, preferably in kidswear, apparel, or fashion brands.
- Strong understanding of knitwear construction, garment fitting, fabrics, trims, prints, and embellishments.
- Experience managing the complete design-to-production process.
- Excellent knowledge of global fashion trends and commercial product development.
- Strong communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple collections and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
