The Role

We are looking for a highly motivated Research Scientist to join our R&D; team and lead fermentation process development programmes. Working closely with the founders and the broader scientific team, you will design, execute, and optimize fermentation processes that advance our precision fermentation platform from laboratory development through pilot-scale validation.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex scientific challenges, thrives in a fast-paced startup workplace, and is excited about translating research into scalable technology.

Key Responsibilities

Fermentation Process Development

- Design, execute, and optimize microbial fermentation experiments using shake flasks and laboratory-scale bioreactors (1–10 L).
- Develop and optimise upstream fermentation processes, including media, process parameters, and feeding strategies to maximise productivity and product yield.




- Develop and optimize downstream processes for product recovery and purification.
- Analyse experimental results, identify process bottlenecks, and implement data-driven improvements.

Scientific Collaboration

- Maintain accurate experimental records and contribute to technical reports and documentation.
- Present experimental findings and recommendations during internal project reviews.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to accelerate technology development and product commercialisation.
- Stay current with advances in precision fermentation and bioprocess engineering.

Qualifications

Education

- Master's or PhD in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience

- 2–5 years of industrial experience following a Master's degree, or 0–3 years following a PhD
- Hands-on experience operating laboratory-scale bioreactors and developing microbial fermentation processes.
- Experience in startup or fast-paced R&D; environments is an advantage.

Skills

- Strong understanding of microbial fermentation and bioprocess development.
- Ability to independently design, execute, troubleshoot, and interpret fermentation experiments.
- Experience with analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, or related analytical methods is desirable.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and scientific curiosity.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
