Position Summary:
Standex Electronics GRID – Narayan Powertech & Amtran Magnetics, Padra Vadodara is looking for an experienced Quality Manager who can build, strengthen, and sustain a robust quality culture across the organization — from raw material inward inspection to final testing and dispatch. Given the nature of our business, where no two orders are exactly alike, the ideal candidate should be comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-changing environment, capable of adapting quality frameworks to varying product configurations without compromising on consistency, compliance, or process discipline.
This role requires someone who thrives amid variability, remains composed under production pressure, and translates ambiguity into structured, process-driven quality systems. The person should bring both technical depth in electrical equipment quality and the behavioural resilience needed to navigate a make-to-order manufacturing setup.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Systems & Process Governance
- Establish, document, and continuously refine Quality Management Systems (QMS) in line with ISO 9001 and applicable industry standards (IEC/IS standards for CT, PT, and transformers).
- Institutionalize process-driven checkpoints across design review, procurement, production, and testing stages to reduce dependency on individual judgment and increase repeatability.
- Standardize quality protocols in a way that remains flexible enough to accommodate high product customization without diluting control standards.
- Own and maintain Quality Plans, Control Plans, Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for CT, PT, and LV/MV transformer product lines.
Product Quality – CT, PT & Transformers
- Oversee inward quality inspection of raw materials such as core laminations, copper/aluminium windings, insulation materials, bushings, and other transformer components.
- Coordinate in-process quality checks at critical stages — core assembly, winding, tanking, oil filling, and final assembly — ensuring adherence to engineering drawings and customer-specific requirements.
- Facilitate Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Routine Tests, and Type Tests for CT, PT, and transformers as per IS/IEC standards (e.g., IS 2705, IS 3156, IEC 61869, IEC 60076).
- Validate that customized product configurations meet both technical specifications and regulatory/statutory compliance before dispatch.
Customization & Engineering Quality Interface
- Work closely with design and engineering teams to translate customer-specific technical requirements into quality checkpoints and inspection criteria.
- Anticipate quality risks arising from non-standard or first-time product configurations and proactively build mitigation plans.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and first-article inspection processes for customized orders.
Supplier & Vendor Quality Assurance
- Coordinate vendor quality audits and qualification processes for critical components and raw materials.
- Establish supplier scorecards and corrective action mechanisms (e.g., 8D, CAPA) to manage recurring quality issues at the source.
Testing, Calibration & Certification
- Oversee the calibration and maintenance of testing and measuring equipment in the quality lab to ensure test data integrity.
- Coordinate third-party inspections, certifications, and customer witness testing as required for CT, PT, and transformer dispatches.
- Maintain traceability of test certificates, calibration records, and inspection reports in an organized, audit-ready format.
Non-Conformance & Continuous Improvement
- Institute a structured non-conformance reporting (NCR) system, root cause analysis (RCA), and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) process.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, Six Sigma, Lean tools) to reduce rework, rejection rates, and customer complaints over time.
- Track and report quality KPIs (First Pass Yield, Customer Complaint Rate, Rejection %, On-time FAT Clearance, etc.) to management on a periodic basis.
Documentation & Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain complete and audit-ready documentation for internal audits, customer audits, and third-party certification bodies (BIS, CPRI, ERDA, or other applicable testing agencies).
- Ensure quality records comply with statutory and contractual requirements specific to the power/energy sector.
Customer Quality Management
- Address customer quality complaints with structured root cause investigation and closure within defined timelines.
- Participate in customer quality audits, technical clarifications, and pre-dispatch inspections, particularly for high-value or highly customized orders.
People & Culture Development
- Coordinate skill-building and technical training for quality inspectors and shop floor personnel to strengthen in-process quality awareness.
- Foster a culture of ownership and accountability for quality across cross-functional teams,
rather than treating quality as a standalone department function.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering (preferred). Candidates from Electronics, Mechanical, Instrumentation, or related engineering backgrounds with relevant industry exposure will also be considered.
- 10–12 years of overall experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Control, with a substantial portion in electrical equipment manufacturing — preferably CT, PT, transformers, switchgear, or related power equipment.
- Prior exposure to the energy/power sector will be considered a strong advantage, given the technical and regulatory nuances involved.
- Sound working knowledge of applicable IS/IEC standards for CT, PT, and LV/MV transformers.
- Hands-on experience with QMS frameworks (ISO 9001) and quality tools such as RCA, CAPA, 8D, FMEA, and Six Sigma/Lean methodologies.
- Experience working in a make-to-order or highly customized manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
- Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or equivalent.
- Proven experience managing large production teams.
- Robust understanding of manufacturing planning, scheduling, and capacity management.
