ACTION NEEDED: Help us tell the Crisafulli LNP Government to Keep the Laws that Keep Queensland Safe Union Careers Work in the Union Movement MINING AND ENERGY UNION - FULL TIME INDUSTRIAL PARALEGAL/LEGAL ASSISTANT The Mining and Energy Union Queensland District Branch (“MEUQ”) is a union with over 9,000 members employed in Coal, Energy and Ports industries.
About The Role The MEUQ is seeking applications for an experienced Paralegal/Legal Assistant based in Our Brisbane Office To Perform The Below Provide administration support to the 2 inhouse Senior Legal Officers;
Maintaining of the industrial database and filing structure/opening and archiving of files (electronically). Create templates for efficient use by the industrial department/ officials and staff.
Maintaining a bring up system and attending to tasks when they arise.
Organising authors – maintaining diaries.
Ability to liaise with members, Barristers, Courts and other law firms etc.
Proof reading and editing for officials and employees as requested.
Attend meetings.
Research – if applicant at level to perform such a task.
Drafting correspondence, basic statements, court documents for the inhouse Senior Legal Officers, drafting initial show cause responses on behalf of members.
About You
Minimum of 3 years’ paralegal/legal assistant experience working for a law firm or another Union. Ability to assist with relief reception in busy/leave periods.
Be competent in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
Great eye to detail and have a high level of accuracy in your work.
Be a team player who can work autonomously when needed.
Possess initiative to get tasks done and the ability to see and perform tasks not specifically asked to do with a strength for time management.

We are seeking an organised and enthusiastic Administration Officer to join our team. As our Administration Officer, you'll be the welcoming face of the QCU and play a key role in keeping our office running smoothly. You'll provide reception and administrative support, coordinate meetings and events, assist with document preparation, maintain office systems and work closely with staff, affiliated unions and external stakeholders.
About You You will have: Experience in an administration or office support role. Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. Strong communication and customer service skills.
Experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams). The ability to manage competing priorities and work collaboratively in a small team.
Experience in a union,
membership or not-for-profit organisation, or coordinating meetings and events, will be highly regarded.
What We Offer Salary of $81,983.91 (Level 2) plus 15% employer superannuation. Full-time fixed-term position until 30 June 2028. A supportive, friendly and values-driven workplace. The role would suit a recent law graduate looking for advocacy experience in employment and industrial relations law.
The position involves providing advice and representation to AMWU members, delegates and officials. Commencing salary is $96,213 or $105,495 (dependent on experience) with above SGC super, generous leave entitlements and monthly RDO’s.
