Key Responsibilities
Product Design & Development
Design and develop new mechanical products, assemblies, and components based on customer and project requirements.
Capture, interpret, and document engineering design requirements.
Develop innovative design concepts using engineering calculations and analytical methods.
Prepare detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
Generate conceptual layouts, detailed designs, fabrication drawings, and assembly drawings.
Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering standards, quality requirements, and manufacturing capabilities.
Participate throughout the complete product development lifecycle from concept to production.
Engineering Analysis
Perform engineering calculations, mathematical modelling, and technical feasibility studies.
Evaluate design concepts for functionality, manufacturability, reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
Conduct tolerance stack-up analysis and design validation.
Perform engineering simulations and virtual testing for prototypes and recent product development.
Analyse engineering data and project requirements to produce optimized design solutions.
Review technical specifications and recommend design improvements.
Design Validation & Testing
Support prototype development and testing activities.
Analyse prototype performance and identify design improvements.
Investigate design failures and determine root causes.
Modify and optimize designs based on testing results.
Conduct multiple design iterations until all functional and technical requirements are achieved.
Coordinate with production and testing teams during validation activities.
Product Improvement
Continuously improve existing products to enhance quality, durability, reliability, and manufacturability.
Implement engineering change requests (ECR) and engineering change notices (ECN).
Track and document all engineering modifications.
Reduce manufacturing cost through value engineering initiatives.
Improve product performance through innovative design modifications.
Documentation & Engineering Control
Prepare and maintain engineering documentation.
Create and control Bills of Materials (BoM).
Prepare manufacturing drawings, exploded views, and assembly instructions.
Maintain engineering drawing revisions and document control.
Ensure engineering documentation complies with company standards.
Design Reviews
Participate in internal and customer design review meetings.
Present design concepts, technical solutions, and engineering calculations.
Review alternative design proposals and recommend optimal solutions.
Address technical comments from customers and project teams.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams during design approval stages.
Cross-Functional Coordination
Collaborate with R&D;, Production, Quality, Procurement, Service, and Project teams.
Provide engineering support during manufacturing and assembly.
Assist procurement in technical evaluation of materials and components.
Support suppliers with engineering clarifications.
Coordinate with customers for technical discussions when required.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
Ensure compliance with ISO quality standards and engineering procedures.
Conduct design verification and design validation activities.
Perform benchmarking studies to identify industry best practices.
Contribute to continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
Maintain high engineering accuracy through design reviews and peer verification.
Project Management
Manage assigned design activities within project schedules.
Prioritize multiple engineering assignments simultaneously.
Monitor design milestones and deliverables.
Report project progress to management.
Independently determine engineering approaches to assigned tasks.
Training & Professional Development
Stay updated with emerging engineering technologies and design methodologies.
Attend technical training programs, seminars, and workshops.
Develop expertise in new materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering software.
Share technical knowledge within the engineering team.
Required Skills
Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (Part, Assembly, Sheet Metal, Weldments, Drawing, Simulation).
Good knowledge of mechanical design principles.
Understanding of manufacturing processes, fabrication, machining, and assembly.
Knowledge of GD&T; (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
Engineering calculations and analytical problem-solving.
Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
BoM management and engineering documentation.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Excellent analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Educational Qualification
Bachelor's Degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience
1–5 years of experience in Mechanical Design Engineering (preferred).
Experience in product development and prototype design is an added advantage.
Experience with manufacturing, fabrication, industrial automation, or automotive products is preferred.
