Role Objective:
We are looking for a video shoot-edit journalist with 1–5 years of experience to join the video team. The role is open in the Thiruvananthapuram office for The Hindu.
In this role, you will handle shoots as well as editing work for regular video operations. If you have a strong eye for visual storytelling, sharp camera skills, and thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment, we would love to hear from you.
Responsibilities
Shoot high-quality videos for news stories, interviews, explainers, features, and breaking news across studio and field locations.
Set up and operate professional camera, audio, and lighting equipment to ensure broadcast-quality production.
Edit news packages, explainers, and short-form videos for digital platforms with speed and editorial accuracy.
Deliver high-quality visual content within tight deadlines, particularly during breaking news situations.
Collaborate with producers, reporters, and editors to execute stories that align with editorial standards and storytelling objectives.
Enhance videos using graphics, motion design, colour grading, sound design, and other post-production techniques.
Repurpose content for social media and other digital platforms.
Stay updated with the latest camera technology, AI-powered editing tools, video production techniques, and digital storytelling trends.
Troubleshoot technical issues and optimise production workflows to ensure timely delivery.
Be available for field assignments and flexible working hours, including weekends, as required.
Desired Skills
Proven experience as a camera person, video journalist, or shoot-and-edit professional in a newsroom or digital media organisation.
Strong hands-on experience with skilled cameras, audio equipment, lighting, and field production.
Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro. Knowledge of After Effects and AI-powered editing tools is an advantage.
Strong understanding of visual storytelling, shot composition, framing, sequencing, and editing.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and deliver high-quality content within tight deadlines.
Familiarity with digital-first content formats and social media video production.
Strong attention to detail, editorial judgement, and commitment to accuracy.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Flexibility to work across shifts and respond to breaking news assignments.
