JAKARTA, thekabarnews.com —Indonesia’s population reached 290,125,073 as of June 30, 2026, according to the Home Ministry’s latest civil registration data.
The ministry’s Population and Civil Registration Directorate General (Dukcapil) published the figure in its Population Data for the First Semester of 2026.
The total increased by 1,809,984 people, or approximately 0.63 percent, from the 288,315,089 residents recorded at the end of December 2025.
Men accounted for 146,402,289 residents, or 50.46 percent of the population. Women numbered 143,722,784, representing 49.54 percent.
The figures indicate that Indonesia had approximately 2.68 million more male than female residents at the end of the reporting period.
The latest release confirms that Indonesia’s registered population has surpassed 290 million. A Dukcapil agile-database update had already recorded 290,028,295 residents on June 22, including 146,355,092 men and 143,673,203 women.
Dukcapil compiles its population database through civil-registration services across Indonesia. These include birth and death registrations, changes of address, marriages, divorces, and biometric identification.
Unlike a periodic population census,
Dukcapil’s figures represent administrative records that government agencies regularly update.
Changes in the total may therefore reflect births and deaths as well as migration. They may also reflect delayed registrations and corrections to residents’ records.
“Population data is the foundation for various state policies,” Dukcapil Director General Teguh Setyabudi said when the ministry released its previous semester’s figures in March 2026.
Teguh said accurate and consolidated records support public services, development planning, democratic processes and government budget allocations.
He described data accuracy and a single verified identity for each resident as essential to effective policymaking. This was reported by Dukcapil.
Indonesia’s population at last release was 288,315,089 as of December 31, 2025, up by 1,621,396 from June 2025. Java had 55.55 percent of the population and Sumatra had 21.88 percent.
Dukcapil also reported that 206,467,957 of the 211,826,747 residents required to obtain an electronic identity card had completed biometric enrollment by the end of 2025. This gives the country a 97.47-percent recording rate.
The updated population figures can help national and regional authorities calculate demand for schools,
healthcare facilities, housing, transportation and other public services. The data supports voter-list maintenance, social-assistance distribution, and regional budget planning.
Dukcapil said it would continue strengthening the accuracy, timeliness and integration of population records. This would allow policymakers to design more inclusive and sustainable national development programs.
